  1. Dear friends!

I am making a DVD form different video clips...some I have in PAL some in NTSC. I am from Europe, so I am planning a PAL DVD. However
I have problems converting NTSC 29,9 fps videos into 25 fps PAL. The end result has this stupid feature called 'judder' which is an annoying effect. This is because certain frames are dropped to make the video PAL 25 fps.

I heared of a good software which should eliminate it called Canopus DV Format Converter, however being from Eastern Europe it costs about two our three months salary...simply can't afford it for my hobby...and I could not find a copy anywhere in cyberspace :0(

I am not even sure whether judder is present if I convert video from PAL to NTSC. Also, could an NTSC format DVD be played on most standan alone Europen DVD players at all? Is it better to make NTSC DVD after all?

Anyone know any way of getting rid of judder? Any toolz around? Any ideas? Thanks in advance..

  2. You may know already, but the fully working Canopus Format Convertor is available as a FREE download from the Canopus site. It's only compromised from the £225 retail version, by having a "Canopus Format Convertor" on screen water mark. Samples of this water mark are shown at their site. The water-mark is unobtrusive enough for my needs, but maybe not yours. This convertor can only be used with Canopus format DV files.

  3. Well, since I make a DVD from valuable early XX century archive videos, not family events it is very disturbing to have to read the watermark. I need to get rid of judder with or without canopus. Any ideas? Any toolz anyone?

  4. If your NTSC DVD is region 0 then it can be played back on all European DVD players, the problem is whether your TV can handle an NTSC input. Japan is also Region 2 (strange I know, but that's Hollywood for you) so Region 2 DVD players are built to output PAL and NTSC.
