A friend has a Liteon LVW-5005 DVD recorder that after he put his X-Men 3 DVD into it stoped working, would not eject the disk, and keeps saying "HELLO" on its LED display.

After taking the 5005 apart I was able to remove the disk, but, even after reassembling it that stupid "HELLO" is still displaied.

Plus, no other control works except for the power switch that sometimes will trun off the "HELLO" and replace it with the clock.

I have tried the "unplug the cord, wait 30 seconds, and replug" reboot method, but, that don't work.

In searching I have found some others that have posted questions about the same problem, however, in non of them has anyone reply with an answer of/to the "HELLO" problem.

What my friend and I just want to know is the folllowing:

1: What can cause the "HELLO" problem.

2: Is there a Fix for it?

3: Is it worth spending money to fix it?

    Any help would be useful

There's an excellent chance the drive crapped out.

There are many threads on the Lite-On forum on www.cdfreaks.com on replacing the drive. They use PC compatible Lite-On drives so repair is not expensive.

You could check out the drive by connecting to a PC.

Hopefully the current problem is not the result of working on the unit without disconnecting the plug from the wall. The LW-5005 is always on, even when you press the power switch.
