    Hi,

I've got a divx that shows jagged edges only when the camera pans.

Is there a way to fix it? I only have the divx, not the dvd source.

    Thanks in advance.

If it is progressive (and it most likely is) then the damage has been done and there is nothing you can do without making the whole image suffer. The joys of downloading - it is a game of Russian roulette when it comes to quality.

    Mpeg4 Modifier says "Interlaced= no".

So, that means it's progressive and I have nothing to do to fix it, have I?

It means whoever encoded it in the first place botched the deinterlacing. They may have done something as simple as throw away one field (every second line). Which ever method they used, you have the results. I seem to remember an anti-aliasing filter for avisynth that claimed to be able to reduce jaggies, but I can't remember the name of it, only that it was slow, and not that great.

Either learn to live with it, or by the DVD on import.

  5. If the two fields haven't been comingled you may still be able to deinterlace or IVTC. The chroma channels may be a little off up but it will be watchable.

Is there a way to know if the fields have been comingled?

żIf Mpeg4 Modifier says it's progressive, fields are blended and you'd better give up?

Open the file with VirtualDub. Add the Deinterlace filter, use the Discard Field 1 (or 2) option. The output window will now show only one field. Go to a scene where there is lots of motion and step through frames. If you see comb artifacts or a ghost of the other field the two fields have been comingled.

No, MPEG4Modifier simply tells you how the video was encoded, not the actual content of the frames.
