Computer: MacPro Quad / Final Cut Pro 5 / Quicktime 7.1.3
Problem: I'm trying to export all of my Avid XPress Pro HD projects from work and I'm trying to import them into Final Cut. All I see is WHITE.
I export my Avid files as DVCProHD (Avid 100). I visited Avid's site and downloaded the most recent Codecs and installed them, no luck.
Is this due to Quicktime being newer? My work Quicktime is 7.0.3.
How can I get my 720 and 1080 projects from Avid and import them in Final Cut?

Tell me this isn't true? Just kidding. -
Yeah, I see the preset for DVCProHD, but when I export out of Avid, I have two choices ... Avid (Avid 100) or Don't Use Avid (DVCPro HD) and on my computer, Avid 100 displays okay ... DVCProHD displays white ...
On my Mac, they both display White... (just loading it in quicktime.)
Remember me saying I wanted to switch to Final Cut? My wish will be complete once I can import my HD projects
I might have to call Apple and ask them. Final Cut was too expensive to not be able to import old HD projects. -
Let us know what they say. I may need to do that when those who feed me stuff figure out DVCProHD 100 on their HVX200.

See, that's the *isser ... The HVX shoots as MXF files for Avid. I have NO PROBLEM importing those files to Avid. Our fellow filmmakers have Final Cut and they spent forever trying to figure out how to import.
I really need to take 2 hours out of my life and just call Apple. haha.
Likewise, if you hear anything... -
Way I see it, you could do one of a couple of things:
1. Rollout sequence out from AVID to DVCPro cam (HVX, etc), roll back in from DVCPro cam to FCP.
2. Get BitJazz Sheervideo codecs ($$) for both Mac (Universal Binary) and PC (QT & AVI). Export using that codec, import will recognize. Or, pay 0$ and output uncompressed (none) HD (GARGANTUAN filesize).
3. Rollout (digital cut) sequence from AVID via HD-SDI, while connected and simultaneously capturing via Blackmagic Decklink HD-SDI to FCP.
4. Tweak the AVID DVCProHD codec fourcc/QTatom so it looks like Apple DVProHD. The codec should work the same way when decoding and so FCP should see it. Works same way with std DV.
5. Get the Beta of AVID IntelMac (if that's what you've got) codecs or the regular AVID MacOSX and AVID PC DNxHD QT codecs (PC you should already have). Then your FCP will be able to see and recognize the AVID DNxHD-formatted clips.
6. Point a camera at the AVID screen and have FCP digitize it as it plays...
I'm sure there are other options too.
.........
You may be frustrated and tired of AVID and wishing for FCP, but BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR, for you may get more than you bargained.
I've used both, and once over the learing curve in both, I don't hit the tech/performance ceiling in AVID, while I do in FCP. Still a good program, but they still aren't quite in the same league.

HAHA!! Yeah, I was ready to point the camera at the TV to capture beta's.
I may continue to try and match DVCPro HD on the PC.
Don't get my wrong, I love Avid, been using it for almost 3 years and will continue to use it for the next film project. Final Cut is nice for other types of projects.
I don't see myself switching permanently, just 50:50.
Maybe more so if Quicktime and Avid could sync better (and ATI Cards)
Thank you so much for the help!!!
