Hello, I am having some issues playing a wav file on my Vista PC. I am using Vista 32 bit OS. I did not have this problem with this particular wav file until i installed Vista. I tried to install GSpot codec tool but when trying to scan a file I get an error imaadp32.acm msacm.imaadpcm. I do have dbpoweramp installed and hovering over the file shows it is DSP Group Truspeech ACM Decoder - Not Installed. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this but cant get it working. The file will not play in WMP , RP, or Winamp. I have installed several codec packs including klite full and ffshow. If someone could help me figure this out it would be greatly appreciated. This file is output from the exchange server at work and I have to be able to listen to the recordings to do my job.

    Thanks!!!

Early adoption of technology. You're a beta tester for Bill, and on your dime

But in this case, thank that piece of poop K-Lite for your woes.

Download Gmplayer and open up the WAV with that. That app should play the file.

Enable all of the the PCM codecs in ffdshow

Once you can verify that GMplayer is playing that file, copy the ACM files off of another machine that is running Vista, and copy them to your machine.

Longer term, your best bet is to reinstall from scratch. And DON'T (shouting, but in a tough love kinda way) install K-Lite.

I'm at work, so I don't have access to my Vista machine, but if the audio is a WAV format, it doesn't need any codecs, the are part of the OS, even Vista, AFAIK. I suspect you have something other than a .wav file.

Good luck with K-lite. It has a bad reputation of causing codec damage on most any system, and doubt it will get along well with FFDShow.

Here's one Vista compatibility list: http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List

I haven't tried Gspot, but it should work. I'll have to try it when I get home.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thanks for the welcome, klite may have been what damaged the above mentioned file. I dont know how to repair it because when trying to delete a file from system32 is tells you you have to have permission but im logged in under the admin. As for the wav file I know it can play wav files but from what I understood there are several diff wav types and this might be the problem.

You'll have to start in Safe mode to replace those files.

Look at the ffdshow link I posted as well.

    The fix is simple.
    Go to Codec tweak tool.
    Check the option:
[AC3filter] -- Don't AC3 filter for PCM and MPEG AUdio

At least it works for me.
