I have been doing conversions for a few years now and like to think i am fairly adept at it. I cannot, however, find an answer to my latest issue!
i am converting an .avi file with TMPGenc DVD source creator (or TMPGenc Plus) to an mpeg, ready for conversion to a DVD. previously when converting i see the subtitles being diplayed in either converotr during conversion, since upgrading my Divx codecs to 6.5.1 they now do not show and are not present in the converted Mpeg. PLEASE note all was fine before, i could see the subtitles (.srt .sub etc...etc...) before upgrading but since can see nothing. the subtitles STILL appear in media player and media player classic when an .avi file, it is only when converting they fail to show. I have ffdshow installed and Vobsub and these were fine before. i have since uninstalled ffdshow and can still see the subtitles in media player.
does anyone else have these issues having upgraded their DivX codecs? also a point to note once upgraded i did have to reinstall TMPGenc DVD Source creator as it would not load any file.
thanks

Use real DVD subs instead - hard subs on DVD is a thing of the past IMO.
What do you use to author?
In what format is your subs?
If you really, really want hard subs, use VirtualDub to add them using a subtitler filter (which, depends on your subtitle format) and frameserve to your mpg encoder.

Hi Mats,
thanks for the input.
i only require subs on foreign movies, so hard coding them is preferred, until the day i learn another 50 languages
i use TMPGenc for everything, even authoring.
forgive me, but i am not asking how i should do subs, i am asking if anyone else has seen this.
it was working fine a week ago, and subs (any format) still show when played on PC, as an .avi file.
i used to be able to see the subs when converting, now i cannot and they are not present in the movie after conversion.
thanks again for the info -
I was merely pointing out that you've (IMO) been using a method that's flakey at best - and it's more of a surprise to me that it's been working well in the past, rather than that it's not working now.
Creating and using real DVD subs is a standard, which relying on the mood of your codec configuratiuon is not, as you've seen. OTOH, Hard subs is the only option if you use TDA to author, as it doesn't support subtitles...
Perhaps you can fix your system by changing the filter merits (RadLight Filter Manager) and the priority (in TMPGEnc) of the DirectShow reader.
/Mats
