  1. This is probably a stupid question but why do I need to use DVD2AVI ?

If I just select my ripped VOB's in TMPGenc for both Video & audio source it seems to work ok.

    Or am I wrong ?

  2. if the audio is dolby digital then the sound will be jacked up.....TMPGEnc doesn't decode dolby digital (at least not that i am aware of)

  4. Also the fast forward and rewind controls on your standalone dvd player (if you have one) will not work.

  5. and if your movies have multiple vob files DVD2AVI brings them togethernot like only converting on vob at a time

  6. I just rip all the vobs to one big vob file with smartripper.

So I dont have to convert them 1 at a time

I was unaware that TMPGenc could process ac3 files, my version definitely doesnt. Regardless, you will not get a dolby surround sound downmix letting TMPGenc process your audio. Also the quality will be significantly lower quality than if you use another program to process the audio before encoding to mp2.

By far the most important benefit of dvd2avi is its force film option. This works on almost all movies and will literally increase your video quality by %30. If you want the benefits of this using your method you will have to use TMPGenc's inverse telecine function which besides adding hours to the encoding process, can never be as a quality as dvd2avi's force film option, if used correctly.
