    Hi All,
I have just completed a 1hr 25 video on Premiere 6.1 with a matrox2500 card and converted it to Mpeg2 for use in either DVDit or reeldvd as an authoring program. The problem is my video, when converted to mpeg2 and wav file, is a total of 4.9GB. When I actually try and author it DVDit it says it's 5.02GB probably because of the simple background and button. Either way its too big for a regular 4.7GB DVD-RW.
What do I have to do?
I'm a newbie when it comes to the conversion and coding of these things. I coded it to Mpeg2 at 7.00mbits.sec and VBR. If I recode it at a lower rate will that decrease its size or do I actually have to reedit?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Karl

Lower bitrate will decrease the size. But first check if you can use compressed audio in dvdit, either mpeg audio or ac3. Wav/pcm audio is huge.

Take the WAV audio and drop it into ffmpeggui and convert it to AC3. That should save you quite a bit of space.

Other options are to re-encode the video to a lower rate. Or you could use Rejig for that as it works like DVD Shrink on MPEG files. Or you could author it as an oversize DVD to your hard drive and run it through DVD Shrink to reduce the size of the authored video.

Or convert the WAV to AC3 with Aften, faster then ffmpeggui.

    Thanks Baldrick, Quick response!
If i can use compressed audio then is the compression something i can do from within Premiere/Matrox or do i need to use 3rd party software?
With a name like yours i can't resist signing off with....
Life is like a broken pencil......pointless! (Blackadder of course!)
    Thanks again
Just say the message from Redwudz, thansk guys for staying up so late.
The only option i'm not sure of is how to "author it as an oversize DVD to your hard drive and run it through DVD Shrink " Can i get some more information on that soemwhere?
    Thanks again
