Is there some way to do this? One of the thing I want to do (as an example) is take one of the shows I have which is Ally McBeal. (It's in PAL because I had to buy it in UK to get it but this is just an example) My wife and I have started to watch these with my sister and her husband. We are all very annoyed by Vonda....I think that's her name. I would like to be able take the shows from DVD and open them in my Vegas Movie Studio and I can remove all this garbage. VMS won't work with VOBs, so I need to conver it back to I think mpg2 or is it 1? Either way I need this or a video format and WAV file. Is this some how possible?

I did try a "flash dvd converter" or something but I ended up with a file that was only 25% of the original and the picture sucked. I would like to retain the quality of the source.

    Just fast forward?

If you are just going to cut it would be much better to use a mpeg2 editor like tmpgenc dvd author, choose add dvd video to open the dvd, cut and make a new dvd.

But if you like to use vms you can try vob2mpg or demux the dvd to video and audio streams with pgcdemux that you can try import.

And you also need to rip the dvd first by either install anydvd or rip it to the hdd with dvdfab decrypter.

Just rename the vob .mpg. That's what it is anyway.I have done that and opened it in video redo.

Renaming is not the same. You can open vobs directly in some tools(mainly mpeg2 editors like tda, videoredo, mpeg video wizard) but far from all and it also depends what the vob contain, several audio tracks, subs and if it's splitted.

I tried giving it a different extension but it still didn't like it. I would like to use VMS....I paid for it and only made one home video (whatta waste) Also I would like to be able to use it's fades and things rather than just chopping pieces together. Also, the audio doesn't show up. When I used this a long time ago and made the home dvd I dragged the video file up and video and audio file showed up while I dragged it up. With the extension changed it's just video.

Someone told me to try vobedit and demux it and try that. VMS doesn't recognize the m2v or the audio that it came up with. Does this pgcdemux do it differently? It says it's output is m2v also, so then I need to convert that to mpg so I can use it vms?

Didn't like it? Have you just tried change to View all under file types? Or do you get an error msg when opening a vob or m2v?

It shows since I have it set to show details. It just isn't recognized and I can't click on it and drag it.

I don't know VMS but not all editing software accept elementary video streams.
You'd need to multiplex to a program stream. You could do it with the mpeg tools of the TMPGEnc demo.
Also from what I gather only the very latest version of VMS has AC3 support.
You'd have to convert to mp2. Besweet can do it for you.

An alternative way to do things, would be to demux with pgcdemux like you've done.
Then download cuttermaran, ImagoMPEG-Muxer, and Delaycut.
Import elementary video stream (m2v) into cuttermaran cause it'll take it, cut what you want.
Open delaycut, import ac3 audio and cut the same section.
Use ImagoMPEG-Muxer to multiplex video and audio back to vob.
I'm guessing audio sync problems might arise and it might take some time to get things right.

Or you could seek out Womble's editor.
I don't know what demo trial limitations their software have but if full funtionality is provided with a time limit you could easily do what you want quickly and nicely
