    Hello,

I recently captured a vhs tape from my vcr (that only has one audio composite output) to my hauppage 250 wintv pvr card. I used the regular dvd setting and it reports that I have 334 mbps audio and that's it's stereo. I only get the sound from the left speaker though. Can I demux this and use a program to duplicate the left and make a track for the right side and save it and remux? thanks?

Both channels are in your one-channel output. If you don't really care about having two different, unique outputs for left and right, just use a "Y" adapter to split your single output cable into two separate cable connectors. I'm not sure how both channels are multi-plexed into one, or how you could demux them. Somebody else would have to help you there.

well that's what sorta happened. I used a y adapter but then I had to use another y to 3.5m jack adapter to plug into my wintv card. so it reports that my sound is stereo 334 kbps but It's only out of one side.

Get Audacity and split the audio channels into separate mono files. You may have to convert the MPEG audio you have to WAV first, but I'm not sure about that. After you have the mono left channel only, you can do whatever you want with it. You can convert it back to 2 channel MPEG, use it as as, convert to AC3, etc.

As long as you understand you'll only be getting the same mono channel (i.e. "information") on both speakers-this is not stereo, just DUAL CHANNEL MONO.

"Mixing" of 2 channels/streams into 1 stream isnt the same as "Multiplexing" 2 streams in to 1 file. The former can't be retrieved without TREMENDOUS time & effort. The latter can easily be retrieved, given the right tools.

You'll have to find out which one you have. Try Gpot.

Oh, and BTW, 334 isn't a valid MPEG audio bitrate.
