I'm working on converting a TON (and i mean... 150+ hours worth) of compressed AVI video to DVD. Trying to find some good software to do it with, and by "good" I mean multi threaded. I've used AVS Video Converter, TMPGENC Plus, and ConvertXtoDVD - none of them are multithreaded. AVS Video Converter is supposedly multi-threaded, but it only uses one of my cpu cores when it's converting, and I can't find an option to make it use both (and yes, I have it affiliated with both cores in task manager).

Anyone know of any conversion software out there that is truly multi-threaded? As far as cost goes, I'm pretty much willing to pay an arm and a leg - there will be plenty more footage to convert in the future, faster I can do it the better.

BTW I know this isn't technically in the right section of the forum, but the board wouldn't let me post anywhere else as I just registered

  2. TMPGEnc Plus is very well multithreaded. It's just one of the slowest MPEG encoders. So running twice as fast still leaves it slower than most of the other encoders. CCE is fast and pretty well multithreaded -- 3 to 4 times faster than TMPGEnc Plus.

Given your CPU specs (3.4 Ghz overclocked to 4.4 GHz) I suspect you have a hyperthreaded P4, not a multicore cpu. That might give you about a 15 percent boost in the best case.

If you do have a dual core system and only single threaded software you can run two encoders at the same time to nearly double your throughput.

If you're willing to spend big bucks get a Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad system. Or even a dual Core 2 Quad (8 cores).
