    Hello. I need help in setting up a 2nd Router, for example, unsecured for relatives coming to my home using their notebooks, etc. I cant get the 2nd Router to get Internet connection, I think there need to configure some DHCP or IP ?

    Both are Netgear Wireless-G 108Mbps
    I) 1st Router goes to a
    II) Netgear 10/100M Unmanaged Switch
    III) then to this 2nd router G 108Mbps. Is this setup correct?

    The 2nd Router has no internet connection.

    Need help. Thanks in advance!

  2. Which ports is each device plugged into?

    Also,

    Are you planning on just turning this on while they are at your house or on all the time? Perhaps some simple encryption would be better.

    I've used a router for a similar purpose, but I plugged the LAN cable out from the switch into a LAN port on the second router, not the WAN port. Then it acts like another switch. This should work if you don't need NAT to change the address. I assume you just want to use this router to output a wireless signal, and not to use the NAT function?

    You will need to give the second router a different address. If your first router is 192.168.0.1, then the second can be 192.168.0.2 or similar. If you set it to output DHCP, then any laptop should be able to log on, if it also uses DHCP for setting up the addresses.

    If you're not using the wireless function, you would be better off with just another switch. The only reason I used a second router is that it had a printer server included. But I only used it as a switch, not a router.

    Thanks for replying. I'm been working on this for two days now.

    Ok..I got Internet Connection on this 2nd Router, but the 2nd Router was able to see all my 1st Network LAN PCs on Router 1, I dont want this, as if this router is just a switch. I like to leave this 2nd Router on all the time for visitors wireless PC and not allowed them to see my 1st LAN network.

    When I assigned LAN IP for the 2nd Router say, 192.168.1.254 and/or unchecked DHCP server, I cant access back to the router.

    My Configuration:
    Router 1 LAN-->LAN Switch LAN--->LAN Router 2.

    Some years ago I saw a description/schematic on the web of exactly what you are intend to do... as far as I remember the "public" routers needs to be router 1. The "private" router 2 needs to be feed into the WAN port from the public router 1. Also the IP address range needs to be different e.g if router 1 has 192.168.1.xxx then router 2 needs to be for example 192.168.2.xxx. Hope it helps and good luck.

    I'd actually like to do something similar myself, but I'm not sure those configurations listed at Netgear's site support the hardware he's using. Those types of switches are designed to support segmenting and VLANs. Not to say that it's not possible, but I'm a bit skeptical. Still it's a useful tip and it does gives some guidance.

  7. I wasn't sure if his hardware allowed it either, but without a model number I did the best I could. Not sure if his router supports 3rd party firmware, but my $50 linksys and buffalo's support vlans with dd-wrt

    That's what he wants to do though, so it is either that or perhaps his router supports dual wlan. If his supports neither, then maybe he can take it back and get a cheap buffalo whr-hp-g54s

  8. What i would do, but you didn't say what your connection type to the internet is

    Cable modem --> switch (no VLANs) --> router 1 and router 2 connect to the switch

    Router 1 = Internal 192.168.1.X
    Router 2 = Internal 192.168.2.X

    Both point to the same gateway and have the same setting except they are on different subnets
    Router 1 is configured for DHCP to get the needed info from your ISP, Router 2 uses static info that you got from Router 1.

    IPs rarely change since your Router 1 will be on all the time

  9. You can't have the same ip address on two different computers (routers). The modem would have problems with that.

    If it was possible that way you could hook up a 16 port switch and have 15 computers all with the same ip address.

    I wonder Can I established a two WAN from this diagram OR having Both Routers work without each LAN able to look into other LAN ? Is it Possible to accomplished what I like to function. Router A & B will have IPs of 192.168.1.1 / 192.168.2.1

    WAN / INTERNET ----> Switch ====>Router A & B ====>Lan A & Lan B (Respectively)

  11. No, thats what the other guy suggested and it wont work for the reason in my last post. You need to see if your routers support vlans
