I'm guessing the reason the PS3 is so low on the list is that Sony is still being stingy with the hardware for whatever reason.
I'm considering a PS3 for two reasons: BluRay and Gran Turismo. I don't get involved in the BR vs. HD DVD debate anymore, I'm guessing they're both going to be around for quite a while and we'll just have to get hybrid players to suit both camps (remember DVD-R vs DVD+R not so long ago?). Also the PS3 is still one of the cheapest BR players on the market, perhaps Sony was telling the truth that they were losing money on the hardware. At any rate I prefer the games that Sony generally carries to the Nintendo camp, I've just never been a Nintendo fan since the SNES. Besides, I'm a die-hard Gran Turismo fan and can't wait to see it on 1080p
Any PS3 fans or owners know how many PS2 games it's backwards compatible with?FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -
Somehow that does not suprise me
I have yet to actually set eye's on a PS3 for sale, the only one i have seen is the demo set up at best buy, never seen an actual system for sale.
But anyway's, SNES KIK'S @$$!! i still have mine with a ton of games, DC & PS2 still have much play left in them....
And ditto what BJ_M said...
Even if the PS3 came down to the same price as the wii, i would still get a wii before a PS3.
The wii is just too cool & universal for games 8) -

Blue Ray is what's killing Sony. The drives cost way too much and Sony passed the cost along to the consumer. Most people aren't going to pay $ 600 for a video game console. That's why the 360 is $200 cheaper. They give you the OPTION of buying the HDDVD as an addon. I think the PS3 is a better system. And if it survives it may be able to take advantage of the larger Blue Ray disc format at some point. But right now it's killing them.
People who are willing to drop $600 on it, probably aren't impressed by the games. As far as I'm concerned they don't have a single decent game for it that I can't get on 360 or ps2. So I wouldn't buy it any price.
I also thought it would sell well as a cheap Blue Ray player. But the fact is, most people have no interest in Blue Ray yet. And I just don't see too many videophiles playing Blue Ray discs on a game console.
Release Metal Gear Solid 4 and I'll buy it. Until there is an exclusive game for it that I really want to play I have no interest.
As for the Nintendo, my football coach used to have a saying: "Respect is like your virginity. Once you lose it, it's gone for good. " The Wii might be an excellent system, but it's Nintendo. It's going to take something major for me to take them seriously. I can't help it. I'm biased. -
PS3s are out there available to be bought in retail stores, although their distribution model might be a bit off. There are plenty of people (myself included) that have been able to find PS3s available in local stores for a couple of months now (small OK city), while other people can't seem to get their hands on one. At the moment, I think the small number of PS3 games is what's hurting them (and the price). I have mine and a few games, but I've also been downloading / playing the demos available on the Playstation Network which is free (take note MS / Nintendo). But in the end if they don't get more games to market faster the PS3 platform will ultimately fail. It's ironic considering that the plethora of PS1/PS2 games (as well as anticipation of the forthcoming PS3) was a big reason many people didn't switch over to the MS camp.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
Check sites like Amazon and Gamespot to see which games are coming out for the PS3 in the next few months. There are some cool ones, but not the few that I really want. I think a new Ace Combat is coming out for it soon which would be cool.
So have you tried PS2 games on it? Do you know if all PS3 games support 1080p?FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -
There is no surprise that Ps3 is not selling well. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, price friggin' MATTERS.
$600 for a game system? Hell no. $300 is the max price for a Gaming system.
I loved the last two Playstations, and PS2 is my favorite system of all time. But i'd be more inclined to buy an X-Box 360 if I had the money, than shell out *$600* for a PS3...
Edit: And yes I CAN AFFORD a PS3 right now, but I don't give a damn about Blu-Ray and can't justify shelling out an extra $300 for hardware I don't give a damn about. Let the commercial failure of PS3 be sony's big lesson to learn from. -
The only reason I would buy a ps3 right now is for the Blu-Ray player. I already have the 360 hd-dvd add-on and that would complete my setup.
However, I'm not going to touch it until it gets some better games and probably I'll wait until the first price drop. Sony's problem, as has been stated, is their lack of games and their price point. Honestly, outside of Resistance I'm not impressed. And I don't think Motorstorm looks particularly impressive. Aren't I supposed to be "awwwed" by their HDMI and 50 gigs of space? Sheesh!
I'll pick up a Wii within a few months, sit it next to my 360 and play till my hearts content. The PS3 has a lot of convincing to do before I pick it up... -

I remember reading that Sony rejected the PS3 when it was able to play 90%+ of the PS2 games, because they were not satisfied with this figure and pushed and delayed until it was backwardly compatible with almost all the games. It reported that they hadnt suceeded with 100% of the games but had only like one or two that were problematic.
The Wii is superb and disturbing all at the same time. It is very much in the normal vein of Nintendo systems/games. It is much more silly fun orientated, rather than serious fun. I mean Mario Party rather than GT.It is disturbing because it slyly gets you exercising whilst playing video games!
And as for the innovative motion sensing controller.. Bu the best bit about the controller for me.... you can turn the whole system on and off from it, no need to get up and down to turn it off after that knackering workout you have just had thrashing your brother or wife at tennis.

It seems most PS2 (and even most PS1) games work with the PS3, however some have minor issues which are detailed here:
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus
You can check the compatibility of legacy PS games there.
I went out and picked one up yesterday when I got my 1080p LCD. The TV came with a $300 gift card so how could I not pick up a PS3. I didn't purchase any games, as I said there aren't really any I like out right now, but I did buy a few BD movies. I'm thinking of renting CoD3 to see what gameplay is like on it.
The PS3 controller is motion-sensing as well, though I've heard most current games aren't taking advantage of it. Of course it's not the same thing as the Wii, but then the games between the systems are entirely different. I played tennis on the Wii but I'm one of those few (it seems) that doesn't do the big sweeping motions with it. I found I can do all the things the controller has to offer just by moving it around in place. It is pretty cool to watch the avatar on screen match your motions, almost like real-time mocap
I agree with everyone who feel they shouldn't have to pay for BD support if they don't want it. MS was smart to make it an option, but almost everyone I know with a 360 picked that option up shortly after purchase. Funny thing is they don't even have a 1080 TV to play the HD DVDs on so I thought it a little strange they got the expansionFB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -
I've seen several reviews comparing the same game on the 360 and the PS3. Every one of them that glitches or is not smooth runs flawlessy on the 360.
They either aren't taking advantage of the PS3 like they should or something is wrong. They say programming the new chip is very difficult so that could be why.
Even though the PS3 has more processing speed, the bottleneck is the memory controller which hurts its performance so there is no real advantage with teh PS3.
