    Hi

I bought a MP4 Player (AUMDigital X-909). It's supose to read AVI videos. It came with a program for PC to convert any video format file to an AVI file, but it doesn't work
I've used another converters, but when i try to play those files in the MP4 Player i get a "File Format Error" message.
The player came with a sample video (which can be played in it, of course) and looking at it properties i get this:

    Image:
    Width: 224 pixels
    Height 176 pixels
    Audio:
    Bit Rate 96kbps
    Video:
    Frame Rate 20 frames/second
    Data Rate 86kbps
    Video sample size 12 bit
    Video compression XVID

I think (tell me if im wrong) that i get the error message because of the color quality "Video sample size" (in the sample video that's 12 bit, but in the videos i've converted i can't get less than 16 bit in XVID format)

Thanks for reading up to here ! and i hope u can help me
    Thank youu

if it was me, i would try super , i would run it thru 2 times

the first time as 3gp for 220*176

    then run that file thru

and set super for mp4 xvid codec NOchange on the size box

its a free program and worth the time to check it out, i use for my phones, and i have made mp4's in mpeg codec this way, the phone doesn't play xvid codec , but super does have that choice when you choose the mp4 container

    Hi again

theewizard: I've tried super, a very cute program, thanks! Converting to XVID with MEncoder i could make an AVI with 12 bit color, but the player doesn't read it !
I tried also many variations to convert but i have no more ideas

I post here the details of the video that I CAN watch with the player (the sample video i got when i bought it)
And then the details of a video i converted with super that I CANNOT watch.

Thank you very much for the help!!

Looks like Super didn't convert the audio. Not surprised, because mp2 isn't supported in an AVI container (according to the author of AvimuxGui).

Well your working file is 224x176 at 20 frames/s
And your super attempt is 220x176 at 15 fps.

Perhaps you should try addressing that first.

    Try mencoder again.
    Code:
    mencoder.exe "D:\source.avi" -vf-add scale=224:176 -ofps 20 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=96 -o "C:\output.avi"
    I think this should work.

Not mplayer - mencoder. You type the code into a command prompt.
    Read my blog here.

    Note (just in case):
    What are you running?
I'm on a Pentium 4 and had problems with mplayer and mencoder.
You can get a precompiled mencoder and mplayer at:
    http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php

Press the windows Start button -> then Run -> then type CMD
Find the directory where you have MEncoder and run the code with the full path to your source file, and a full path to your destination file.

You can also try one of the MEncoder Guis, if you have difficulty with the above.
The ones I've seen aren't that pretty or user friendly though. It might take a while to find where you need to input what.
You can find gui frontends here:
    http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/projects.html

p.s. thanks to celtic druid for trying to help me when I couldn't get Mplayer to work,
and to soopafresh for somewhere posting a link to the precompiled MEncoder/Mplayer binaries.

If you'd like you can upload the sample file that works on your AUMDigital.
And a sample of the file you are trying to convert.
Someone will try and get your source to a target resembling the bundled sample.
Then you can try it out.

I bought a new computer, tried the program which AUMDigital gave to me and it works now
I have no idea why it didn't work in the other computer, but now it works and i can see the videos converted with that program in the MP4..
    Thank you all !
