  1. which ones are best for vcd playback in a dvd player that says it plays vcds. im trying to use memorex and the player says no disk. is there anyway that you can make someones computer automatically play the vcd or do you always have to open the .dat file?

  2. VCD compatibility DOES NOT equal CD-R/W compatibility.

    All VCD compatibility means is that your DVD player has the firmware to playback a VCD if it can read it.

    Many DVD players do not have a drive that is designed to read CD-R or CD-RW media and not surprisingly, do so poorly.

    Have a look at your users manual. Does it say anywhere that it can play CD-R or CD-RW media explicitly? If not, then it wasn't designed to do so. Those player that do will usually mention something about dual-laser or dual-optics.

    Usually, you can still get recordable CD media to work in these players, but you will have to experiment with different brands to find one that works. CD-RW often work better in these cases.
