You're probably missing the video codec. Load the AVI in GSpot, and post a screen shot.

Since your Xvid has VBR audio, if you used that with TMPGEnc, you would likely have sync and other problems. But do you mean you used VirtualDub to extract the audio to a WAV format with full audio processing? That should cure the sync problem. TMPGEnc can't handle VBR audio.

Do you get a black screen with other MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 videos? If so, that sounds like a overlay problem and not a problem with your video. I don't see any obvious problems with the TMPGEnc converted video. You could try playing it back with VLC Media Player. It has overlay adjustments.

I think, if TMPGEnc can't handle the video, it will just create a black frame video, matching the audio. The resulting video will still look OK when loaded in GSpot.

Yes I used VirtualDub to extract the audio to a WAV format with full audio processing.
And I just tried VLC Media Player and I could see the video and hear the audio, so that is fine.
But do that mean that I can burn the mpg file to a cd and get a vcd or what has to be done before that will work?
