On the whole AGK does an excellent job of autocropping. Sometimes with the default settings it comes a, er, cropper when the titles sequence uses different letterboxing from the body of the movie, which can happen with TV presentations of, eg, CinemaScope movies. But the Hidden Options .autocrop file gives you pretty good control over this.

But there are situations where you don't have that sort of control, and I'm wondering if folks here can help me with this.

1) when the input is from a DVD you can't write a .autocrop file (because the source directory is read-only). This obviously also applies to other AGK .<control> files. Anyone know of a way round this?

2) Some DVDs use a cinema AR letterboxed to 16:9. I prefer to compress to XViD keeping this same AR and letterboxing, but AGK likes to remove the letterboxing and presents me with an AR that isn't native to my display projector. So in cases like this I've been doing dual-pass VDubmod runs instead. Is there a way that AGK can retain 16:9 in this situation?
