  1. Hi there,
This is my first post on this forum so hello to one and all,
I have downloaded many TV series and I would like to convert these to DVD. When I use Toast Titanium 8 to encode these avi files to dvd, I am restricted to about four 350mb avi files per DVD disc. I am looking to get more avis per dvd disc even though I am aware that this will compromise on video quality. What do I need to do to compress these avis further so this in turn will give me more TV shows per DVD disc. I would be obliged if someone would point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in Advance

The basic knob for modulating file size is the bitrate (resolution is another, but DVD specs don't allow much freedom there). So, if the file is too big, reduce the bitrate. Of course, there's always a tradeoff: quality goes down. Since individual tastes vary greatly, you'll just have to experiment with the tradeoff to see if you can find a compromise that's acceptable to you.

  3. Thanks for the reply.....what is the easiest way to adjust the bitrate so I can experiment with your suggestion above.

The tools that I have available to me are
    Toast Titanium 8
    D-Vision 3
    ffmpegX
    Handbrake
    Roxio Popcorn

    Thanks in advance,

I'd use some DL DVD+Rs to get double the amount - choose custom encoding in Toast and reduce the average bitrate slider (experiment a little bit by saving as a disc image first - to check the quality before burning).

  5. You might want to experiment with the Half DVD/Half-D1/DVD-lo format as available with ffmpegX and MPEG2 Works.
