  1. Hello

I use ConvertXToDVD to convert my AVI files frequently. I would like to add a proper Menu after the conversion as the Menu feature is pretty poor in the above sw, though the output quality seems to be pretty good.

So which tool can be used?

    Please help.

    Thank you.

Tmpgenc DVD Author - use the Add Video function - simple and easy
DVD Lab Pro - import the VOBs, demux and author - complex and powerful
GUIForDVDAuthor - you may have to demux first - sits somewhere in between

Easy to use, but not the fanciest menus, would be TMPGEnc DVD Author. I still have the 1.6 version. For more quality, and better menus options, maybe DVD-Lab Pro. Not cheap though.

You can also use some freeware programs, like DVDAuthorgui or GUI for dvdauthor. They require you to make up your menu graphics using other programs that may be a little difficult to learn, but you can do every bit as good as a commercial DVD with enough time and experience.

EDIT: guns1inger, you out typed me again. That's unfair. I'm ready to sleep and you are probably wide awake. Damn time difference. What is it, afternoon there?

Sorry guns1inger, what does it mean exactly?

Thank you for your opinion. So it seems that that both of you are not recommending any of the three programs that I mentioned and if I can afford I should go for DVD Lab Pro- right?

Sorry, no idea about dmuxing....I am rather new in this business.

Reds and I seen to post to the same thread almost identical answers on a regular basis - today I got in first. Just a little fun, and completely off topic.

I don't actually see any programs mentioned in your post, other than ConvertxtoDVD.

The advantage to three that we have mentions is that none of them will try to re-encode you video. Some other so-called authoring tools will. These include things like NeroVision.

Demuxing, or De-Multiplexing, is the process of extracting the video and audio data as separate streams of information. Most higher end authoring tools prefer to work with elementary, or separate video and audio streams, and to bring them back together when authoring. ConvertxtoDVD has already authored, so you have to undo this last step to get source ready to work with. DVD Lab Pro will certianly accept VOBs without demuxing, but this can often lead to unexpected behaviour.

PgcDemux or Rejig are two free, easy to use tools to achieve this before authoring, or DVD Lab Pro will do it for you on import.

  7. I don't know how ConvertXToDVD creates the vob files (SingleVTS/MultiVTS and i.e if several titles are 'stitched' in one vob file).
If there is only one title in one set of vob files, you can use them without demux by just renaming them to mpg (and join with copy/b if necessary see: http://download.videohelp.com/gfd/Help/RawMaterial.html ) Maybe vob2mpeg can also deal with multiple titles in one vob.
If GfD is used in 'dvdauthor mode', there is no need to demux the files.

ConvertXtoDVD is a simple beastie - one VTS per title. Can have up to two audio tracks and one (or more ?) subtitle track per title.
