  1. For those interested in bargain media and willing to go the rebate route. I'll pass but some people have had decent success with these discs.

This DVD+R media has performed flawlessly for me on LG 4163, H10N and the LG drive in my notebook. It has an MCC mediaID.

    Great value for $6.95.

Be advised the rebate is slow to come. I have not received the rebate from Black Friday. It just went to printed/mailed status so I expect I will see the check the first week in March. My other Black Friday Staples EasyRebates were paid weeks ago.

Be sure if you use the above link to change the store location, there are differences in the promos by region and store.

Sorry about that - I got the link from a Staples email last night. I just assumed the President's Day Promo was good nationwide. Apologies to the Canadien crowd as well.

I do have one comment and a question for oldandinthe way:

The DVD-R 16x have also had MCC media id's. I see you have used the +R MCC 004's. Could you give us the stamper code and hub serial nos? Legitimate MCC 16x +R media will have something like:
    stamper code / serial no
    ZD2632-DVR-T47D / PAPA22II28032680 4
The above is a CMC produced Verbatim MCC 004. Just curious what yours had. They may very well be legitimate MCC.

    No codes at the hub.

An observation - Playo and Nexxtech have used the same suppliers in the past. Nexxtech is also showing MCC media codes on their 16x media.

In any case 60 dvds without a coaster is respectable media. Of course CMC does just as well on my drives, and just about any media I use gets at least a 99% success rate. It seems Rennasas based LG drives aren't picky about media.

    According to reviews at https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=playo&dvdmediadvdridsearch=&type=...+or+List+Media
performance on these range from good on an LG burner to poor on a Benq burner. Has anybody had good results on Pioneer 111D or NEC 3520 with these?

Where's the rebate info, and is it for online only or in store purchase too? Rebate's not shown on Staples site and not found when "Find a rebate" is selected at Staples site.

This offer not valid till 2/18/2007. Info stated as $27.98 - $1 instant savings - $20 easy rebate = $6.98

It should be available as online or in store. Good luck.

Has anyone used these in Pioneer or NEC burners with good results? Reviews I read had good results in LG burner but poor results in Benq burner. I'd like to try them if there's reasonable chance of good results, but I don't want to waste the money if the Benq burner poor results is more likely.

I have used these Playo disks from Staples for quite a while now ( well over a year) and have found them to one of my most favorite brand. The shame is that now Staples ony allows 1 to a customer. Last year you could get as many as you wanted without going the rebate route.

I will be there tomorrow to get a 60 pk.

Just got the ad (effective tomorrow).

More interesting to me is they have the $89.95-$50 rebate= $39.95 Maxtor 200GB ATA133 hard drives. In the past up to 3x rebates are allowed per household and Staples always pays. They even allow you to submit the rebates online.

So far I've bought 7 of these over the past two years. They are my new floppy disc.

They have been offered as low as $29 after rebate in the past.

FYI http://www.bensbargains.net/ has 160 GB or larger drives from time to time for $40 or less after rebate from various vendros. I got 2 200 GB Western Digital drives from Office Depot free after rebate that I spotted there about 6 months ago. Many other bargains there too like the 500 watt power supply free after rebate from Frye's now. If nobody's used these Playos with Pioneer or NEC burners with good results, surely somebody's used them with poor or mixed results. Anybody?

Unfortunately I finally decided to give the +R Playos a try resulting in 3 out of 4 coasters on LiteOn SHM-165P6S burner with latest firmware. Lucky I only bought 1 spindle wasting $7 just once after rebate. Some Ritek 8x tried work flawlessly in 3 different burners, much better than the Playo crap.

Further tests caused revision of opinion of Playos. The LiteOn burner made coasters with some Verbatim -R discs too, and the Playos seem to burn fine on a NEC 3520 burner. This indicates that this particular LiteOn simply must not like Verbatim or Playo media. The Ritek 8X +R as well as TDK 8X -R burn well on the LiteOn burner. I'd have thought Verbatim as well as Taiyo Yuden should do well on all burners, but this experience indicates that not to be the case.

There appears to be no media which do well on all burners. There have been reports of problems on some burners with 16x TYs on this forum

My LG drives appear to be compatible with all SL media I have tried, but can't burn Ricoh DL. And I have access to returns from a big box store due to coasters so I test stuff that others have already labeled as crap.

The combination of drive AND media is the key.

For the recent +R Playos, I'm finding they work fine in my Sony DRU-710A (made by Lite-ON) but I'm getting about 30% coasters in the new Pioneer 111D.

    Mileage varies.

Which firmware are you using with the 111D, and have you tried lower burn speed to see if the 111D burns Playos better? I also got a 111D which was cross flashed to 111L but haven't tried Playos on it yet. I may need to stick to my NEC 3520 for Playo burns if oldandintheway is correct and if my 111L doesn't burn Playos well.
