i have tried every thing i know about backing up my dvd's. i am using dvdfab decrypter and dvd shink 3.2 the movie is small enough to put on a dvd-5 size disc.watching the movie allocate or i guess it is called encoding it looks good but the problem is right when it gets to the end and starts to the burning process it says reallocation has failed. have tried other movies and they all work great this is the only one i can't get to work. if anyone can help thanks in advance.

    Two things to try.

One - run the ripped disc through FixVTS before processing it in Shrink. If the disc is already small enough to fit on a DVD5, don't use Shrink at all - it is unnecessary. But do use FixVTS. Removing structure protection is a brutal process, and you need to put the disc back together again after ripping.

Two - don't burn with Nero. Burn with Imgburn 2. Much better burning software for DVD Video.

    There's your problem.

You might want to edit out your nero serial number from your original post, too
    If in doubt, Google it.

thanks for the info i did use fixvts first after it failed in dvd shrink but fixvts did fix it so dvd shrink could encode when i ripped it to the hard drive it worked fine with dvdfab. doesn't the ripping software would have given me read errors (it didn't) when ripping and then fail to rip. always before when i rip a dvd if it has read errors the rip fails and i get nothing. dvd shrink played the video fine. any ideas? as far as the serial key thing oops i didn't know about it i just copied what dvd shrink had on there, not nero. thanks

whoops forgot to add this , when i ripped the dvd with dvddecrypter it never gave any error messages so how could be missing 'VTS_04_0.VOB' this doesn't make any sense shouldn't it have gave me a error message asking me what i wanted to do such as abort, retry , etc. i ripped it twice once with dvdfab decrypter and dvd decrypter both did the same thing the disc has light scratches on it. thanks again.

A couple of things to bare in mind. DVD Decrypter is fine if the disc does not contain ArCoSS protection. If it does, use RipIt4Me and DVD Decrypter. It will rip the disc, use FixVTS to repair it, and load it into Shrink.

DVD Fab Decrypter is a brute force ripper. For structure protection this is required, and so long as you remember to use FixVTS afterwards, you should have few problems. But it is a crude, blunt instrument, and if structure protection isn't really present, it may butcher the rip anyway.

Personally, since RipIt4Me was released, I have uninstalled DVD Fab Decrypter, and won't use it again.

What it means is that somewhere in one of the IFO files it references VTS_04_0.VOB, and somewhere throughout your butchering it has left the reference in there when it should have been removed.

The DVD File reallocation AFAIK scans the IFOs and then makes sure that anything referenced in there actually exists, and you mustn't have a VTS_04_0.VOB in the files you're trying to burn, otherwise why would the error message say that that particular file, a required file, is missing ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
