  1. Hi,

I'm looking for a program (free if possible) that can detect all scenes changes in a mpeg-2 file.
If possible it would be great if the program can detect "cuts" from a video shooted with a camcorder (analog on vhs tape captured on a dvd-r).

I seen Comskip but it seems it's only for commercial

Do you have some suggestions ?

    Thanks.

Comskip looks primarily for fades which signify commercial breaks, but could be used for other scene detection. Scenealyzer Live works for DV, even if the source is analogue based (i.e. it isn't limited to time code based scene detection).

I don't know of any that work across multi-formats.

Pinnacle Studio does that like no other.

  4. Comskip seems to be great. Is there a way to make it run faster ??

    I use the following settings:

    --detectmethod=4
    --videoredo

but it's only running at +/- 11-12 fps.

The source file is an mpeg-2 at +/- 8 Mbits and 50 minutes duration for +/- 4 GB

I'm impressed with the scene detection tool in MPEG Video Wizard. Like any other scene detection tool I've seen, there are many false scene detections, but it does not seem to miss any either. Takes around 8 minutes for a 2 hour clip. Not totally free, but fully functional free trial for 30 days.

To use, drage clip to input monitor, press F3, then click "Scene" in the "Bookmarks" window.

Comskip runs on my 1.6GHz laptop at more then 400fps on a 5MBit/s VBR SD recordings with all detection methods enable.
Make sure your recording is not on a nearly full or fragmented disk.
Comskip does require some memory so ensure your system does not to start swap memory to the disk during processing (e.g. there must be at least 100kByte free memory when comskip runs.)

W.r.t scene change detection. The VideoRedo output file includes standard the scene change list
It can be used to quickly navigate inside the recording and for generating DVD chapter information
