    hi everybody,

i bought (download) a documentary in a tv channel website and it needs a divx 6 player that i've finally also download.

after that i have burned the documentary on cd through the divx player/burner .

i have a standalone phillips dvdr 3355 player/burner who can play divx standard but when i put the cd (it was burned on cd, i only have cd burner in my computer) it told me that i need authorization to watch this divx cd , what is the problem and what steps i have to make to resolve that, all these new standards (divx, avi, ect...) are new for me ?

i think that it's complicated for nothing finally.

    thanks

Drm could be the problem ... and it's not mentioned in the manual as a possibility

1: Unable to play DivX movies.

A: Check that the DivX file is encoded in ‘Home Theater’ mode with DivX 5.x encoder .

    From the manual .

You manual will tell you if protected files can be played, and if so, how to enter the code. My LG player has a section in the menus for adding licenses.

I could not find a manual for your player online, but a similar, current model had this in the manual

    DivX® VOD (Video On Demand)
registration code allows you to rent and
purchase videos using the DivX® VOD
    service from the internet.
For more information, visit us at
    http://vod.divx.com
1 In ‘GENERAL SETUP PAGE’, press 3 4 to
    highlight {DIVX(R) VOD CODE}, then
    press 2.
    ➜The registration code will appear.
    2 Press OK to exit.
3 Use the registration code to purchase or
rent the videos from DivX® VOD service
    at http://vod.divx.com. Follow the
instructions and download the video onto
a CD-R for playback on this DVD player.
    Helpful Hints:
    – All the downloaded videos from DivX®
VOD can only be played back on this DVD
    player.
    – Time search feature is not available
    during DivX movie playback.
If the movie you paid for does not use VOD then you are probably out of luck.

thanks to you 2 for answers.

i had already check for the video on demand code i have in my phillips dvd player, for sure the code is there , it's 8 letters/numbers and when i saw it i made ok but it don't resolve the problem.

in the website i bought the documentary, they tell all about video in demand and they are legit about that and all is suppose to be ok but it don't tell me what steps i have to make because it's write that my dvd player can't play this cd.

if you have another solution, please tell me about that.

    i appreciate.

Your DVD player must be able to read the CD in order to be able to determine that you need a code. If you have entered the code correctly, then it should play it back. It is not an issue with the CD from they way you are describing it.

Unless there is a different error coming up that you haven't mentioned yet, I can't see what else to tell you.

Strange ... I just download the manual for that model from phillips website only 20 minute's ago ... it wasn't hiding .

    http://www.search.philips.com/search/search?q=DVDR3355&s=consumer&l=us_en&h=consumer , should work .

Either do it as I mentioned before ... divx6 is crap , and can cause problems with those encoded with previous versions , and a good working pc to suddenly popup all sorts of issue's with video ... it aint getting in any pc I work on , they can f*** off with their shit .

    https://vod.divx.com/how/
Read and follow the advice .

But I noticed this down the bottom ...

*Note: If you already own DivX files that are not VOD, you can play them on your device without entering an activation code. This process is only necessary for users who wish to purchase or rent videos from any of our VOD partners.

    Hmm ... rent ... what the ???

Wonder how the home dvd player know's when it's time and to set "game over" on a rental ???

Might be worth checking this vod code out ... but if you were too follow the guide on "DivX file is encoded in ‘Home Theater’ mode with DivX 5.x encoder" , this would officially destroy this feature ...

    How flamin dumb ...

Don't know about legal ramifications but since you are only trying to change the format this should be ok.

Try to re-encode the file using the HuffYUV codec in lossless mode. I'm sure it wouldn't even know that it's a vod flagged file. Then re-encode the new file back to divx. The flag whatever it is shouldn't be on the new file and this one should play with no license required.

This might be the long way around but in a pinch it's worth a try. If you do a partial re-encode and test on a cdrw it will go a lot faster just to test it.

btw) If you do this expect a very large output from the Huffy codec, lossless mode will produce a low compression file.

finally divx company answered me and sent me a link including a little video to show me what to make to activate my divx code.

i made it (i have 2 phillips dvd ), the 2 are now activate but the cd i've burned in the divx 6 dont want to play in my dvd's, in the beginning of the cd, there's little color squares like when a dvd disc have problems (skips/freeze).

so, i'm very bored about that, hope that divx company will again find a solution.

    thanks to y'all
