  1. I am trying to find a solution for connecting videogames and other external HD devices directly into Windows, playing and capturing a 1080i output. Playstation 3, Wii or XBox 360 for example.

A google search for HDMI or Component capture cards should bring up some devices in the $1000-$1500 range.
    Have a good one,

    From the specifications tab:

"The HDMI standard can include copy protected encryption, such as DVD players. The Intensity card therefore will NOT capture from copy protected HDMI sources."

Please note: I have no idea if the new game systems have copy protection or not via HDMI output. Also I thought the Xbox 360 has no HDMI output anyways so ... ???

  4. Actually I am kind of new to the video/audio standards. I only use computers theese days and I was looking for a solution to play the games on my PC monitor / PC spekers without the need of swapping cables back and forth.

That often doesn't work very well because the video capture display on the computer is several frames, sometimes even several seconds, behind the source.

Even if the lag was bearable the solution is too expensive. You're much better off buying a second monitor or using a monitor with multiple inputs.

  6. I'd have to agree that you'd be better off spending your money on a new/addt'l monitor. You can get (for example) the Dell 2407 for under seven hundred bucks and it has DVI, VGA, and Component video inputs. I used this successfully both with the VGA and Component video OUT from my XBOX 360 and the PS3 and Wii both have cables you can buy that output in COMPONENT video format. (I don't think the PS3 has a VGA cable yet...)

If you really want to make use of the HDMI out from the PS3 (Wii doesn't have that, nor does the 360), then consider one of the 32" + Westinghouse TV/Monitors that are 1920x1080 and many people seem to really like them for the price.

For CAPTURING, well... what do you plan to do with it? If you plan to capture just to post a highly compressed video on youtube, then you may as well just capture using S-Video out or Composite out. If you plan to use captures for a commercial enterprise, then, by all means, go ahead and spend a lot more.

Interesting that the new BlackMagic card respects copy protection. They must have gotten a letter.
