  1. Can subtitles on a VCD be turned on and off? Or are they always on.
In researching the subject I found several way on how to add subtitles to a VCD but nothing stating they can be turned on and off.

  2. For VCDs, the subtitles must be hardencoded (i.e., part of the picture). Obviously, these cannot be selectable.

For SVCDs, you can use overlay graphics and text (OGT) to create your subtitles. Thus, they can be selectable and you can have up to four selectable "subtitle" streams per video stream. However, hardware support for "real" SVCD subtitles is somewhat limited.

  3. Hi,
Can you guide me on how to create these selectable SVCD subtitles?
please explain, there's no guide explaining this at your site.
Is there any specific program to make these overlay graphics and text?
    Thank you in advance

BTW, though I wish I could claim credit, this is not my site...

  5. Thanks for the link. The site doom9 has many good guides.
But I didn't say the question exactly:
I want to make my own selectable(OGT) subs on my video captures(which have no subs originally) or on other sources with no subs.
(not the rips from DVDs).In other words: not ripping DVD subtitles but making overlay svcd subs from scratch.
The question can be: how they make DVD subs(I think the method could be the same...).There's no guide describing this at doom9 as well.
I know how to make vcd subs with vdub and substation alpha but what I don't know is how to make the subs selectable(overlay) on a svcd.
vitualis you have not updated your geocities site for a very long time ?
    all the best.
