  1. i want to rip a dvd, edit, add my own subs, and make a vcd... using the following....smart ripper,dvd2avi,tmpgenc,and virtual dub and finally ezcdcreator platinum...ive messed around know some basics...where im having problems is when in the process should i edit and add the subs... when ive edited using tmpgenc i end up w/ loud beeps and the cuts wernt timed exactly as i wanted them to be, so i started tooling around w/ vdub, and i edited after i encoded to mpeg. and then frameserving back into tmpegnc for the final re-encoding...im wondering about quality issues by re-encoding...so i guess what i need to know can i edit before i encode, and if so where in the process should i be doing this? is there a way to minimize the number of programs im using(prefering to stick w/ freeware) in this process. i think im going thru too many steps....any help is much apreciated...thanks in advance

Try frameserving to virtualDub, add subs and encode to avi, then encode to VCD with TMPGEnc.

  3. cozmickind,
    1. Rip the DVD using SmartRipper
    2. Convert all chapters or entired movie using DVD2AVI
    3. Rip the subtitle using subRip (.srt)
    4. Use notepad to edit the subtitle file (it included time stamp)
    5. Convert the srt to ssa
    6. Frameserving to include subrib filter (ssa)
    7. Encode the final movie with TMPGEnc

You can get good tutorial from doom9.org (that's where I learned it from)

    Have fun!!!
