I have a DVD player that will not play menus with LPCM or MPEG audio but will play AC3. I use TDA and the motion menus are converted to LPCM.

Is there a way to change the audio format of a VIDEO_TS vob to AC3 without loosing the menu functions?

    TIA

I am surprised that LPCM won't play, as it is mandatory that it be supported. Mpeg audio support is not mandatory for NTSC players.

TDA should not convert existing audio if it is compliant, including AC3, however it does require a separately licensed module to encode AC3 itself. If you are creating the motion menus outside TDA with AC3 audio, TDA should not convert this to LPCM.

From a DVD format, the player will not play movies or menus with LPCM audio (stutters and high pitched) . It will play movies and menus with Mpeg1 Layer2 and AC3 audio.

The player can also play independent VOB files with no problem with any audio including LPCM, of cource the menus have no navigation.

I have not seen any TDA motion menu that does't have LPCM audio. It seems to convert any aduio to LPCM. It does preserve the AC3 in the movie VOBs.

Any ideas as how to change the audio in a menu VOB?

  4. Hi-

I agree with guns1inger that what you say sounds very peculiar. You can switch audios, but it's a bit tricky. You'll have to demux each menu by cell ID. I use PGCDemux for this sort of thing. You'll have to remux with the M2V, AC3 and SUP file sub_pics. Muxman is best for this. You can Replace each menu using VobBlanker. You'll also have to Export and then Import the Menus and Color Schemes to get your working buttons back. You do this in PGCEdit. Although my guide was written for a different purpose (editing and replacing menus), it details the entire process for you:

Sounds like the combined bitrate may be too high, which will cause rpoblems like this. LPCM requires a high bitrate, and therefore the video bitrate must be lowered or it can choke the player.
