I've searched and read just about everything here but I'm still a bit lost since very few if anyone mentions Compressor as a tool, which I thought would be the best way to go but maybe I'm wrong.

I looking to take DV material from it's native 480i (both from my Panasonic PV-GS300 and various avi stuff) and upconvert to be placed on a DVD that could play in most modern DVD players (meaning at 480p).

My question is which is the ideal format in which to achieve the best quality (i.e., close to real DVDs)?

I use FCP and DVDSP as my main tools (and of course compressor) but would like to hear if there is something that can achieve this task better. So I typically use mpeg2 at bitrates from 4.8 (for 2 hour stuff) to 6 for the video and AC3 for audio. But that's still at 480i and I'm thinking (again, maybe I'm wrong) that if I can upscale to 480p that will make a nice difference when viewed through a regular old progressive scan DVD player going into an HD TV (using component or HDMI).

Thanks in advance.
