    Hi there,
    Hope some one can help.
I have an AVI which is 704x576 in 16:9 ratio.
When I try to burn it using Nero, it displays in Nero Preview all slanted to the left.
Does anyone know why Nero is doing this?
When I view it in Windows Media Player it plays fine.
When I burn using Nero it ends up like the above?

I once had this problem ripping a DVD but I got around. But I can't remember how!

    Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't trust Nero for it's preview or conversion facilities. That said, what format is the video ? AVI is just a container. What is important is how it is compressed. If it is Divx/Xvid, try using Mpeg4modifier to change the aspect ratio, then try burning.

Next question - are you using Nero to convert the avi to DVD, or are you burning it as data ? If you are converting, try using something better. ConvertXtoDVD would be my first suggestion, AVI2DVD could also be considered.

guns1inger, firstly, thanks for your reply.
I prefer to do things as simply as possible, so im not sure why/what to use mpeg4modifier for? but anything to get it to work.
i thought avi was a format in itself, don't know what you mean by format?

i was using nero to convert to DVD, not as data.

ConvertXtoDVD seems to be non-free, so ive tried to avoid it i remembered AVI2DVD . . . so whilst you were writing your post, Ive already started on it.

my understanding is AVI2DVD makes an ISO out of the AVI, which I then burn. does that sound right?

    once again, thanks

ConvertXtoDVD has a free little brother, DivxtoDVD, which you can download from the tools section. It is essentially the beta version of ConvertXtoDVD, but does a good job.

AVI is a container. The video and audio is stored inside it. How it is stored comes down to the codecs used. For example, an avi can contain DV video and PCM audio, or Xvid video and mp3 audio. Same container, different contents. Video also has several attributes, including display aspect ratio, and pixel aspect ratio. If these attributes are wrong, some programs might have problems playing the video back. On the other hand, some programs simply ignore these attributes anyway. Mpeg4modifier is pretty good at changing these attributes for some types of avi. You can use g-spot or avicodec to tell you how the video has been stored.

Personal preference for burning to DVD is Imgburn 2.

    Guns1nger,
Checked your link but no mention of DIVXtoDVD, perhaps it has been removed?
Anyway, it worked when I used AVI2DVD to make an ISO and burnt that. Thanks for your help.

If you click on DivxtoDVD in this post or your post, it will take you to the ConvertxtoDVD page in our tools section. Under the links to ConvertXtoDVD are the links to DivxtoDVD.
