I have just encoded WWE Royal Rumble and the outcome file is 10.2gb. What I would like to do it author this file into the DVD file structure but when I load the file into TMPGEnc, I get an error that its over 8gb. I dont want to burn it to a disc or anything. Just want the structure. I really dont want to reencode at a lower bitrate. When I do put it on a disc, I would reauthor the other vobs on to another DVD so it I ever need to join them back up again, it would be a case or just copying both sets of vobs onto the PC and renaming the latter ones.

Im guessin there is no way to do this in TMPGEnc DVD Author. Will another one do it?

Gee. I have this cake I want to put in this box. I baked the cake too big, but I want it in the box, and I don't want to cut it up, crush it or break it in any way.

You cannot fit it 10.2 GB on an 8.x GB disc without either splitting it up, or using something like DVD Shrink to reduce the size. What you should have done is use a bitrate calculator to make sure it would all fit in the first place.

You can use TDA to import the VOBs, then trim the video down to fit, and effectively author 2 separate DVDs for burning. You can use TDA to put it all back together again down the track if you need to.

I have said I dont want to put it on a 8gb disc. I just want to author it on to the hard drive in the dvd structure. I can then author 2 sets of vobs. I dont want to use a program to split the file as when you join them together, there is always a blip.
Jagabo, please do not reply to this post. Thank you.

You can't author it and split it without having to re-author the parts, so you may as well author two discs to begin with. You can use TDA to do this, however there is no nice way to do what you want to do. This is why is it always simpler to do it right in the first place.

I do want to use 2 discs but every program I have split with, when rejoined leaves a "jump". I like how vobs play seemless together which is why I would like the whole file split in vobs.

You can't just say I wont VOBs 1- 7 on this disc, and 8 - 11 on the other. It doesn't work like that. However, if you don't need menus etc, try this

Author a single, over-sized disc with TDA - no menus. Create two new Video_TS folders under folders called Disc 1 and Disc 2. Copy half the VOBS into the Video_ts folder under Disc 1, the other half under Disc 2. Use IFOEdit to create new IFO and BUP files, then test to see if they will function as DVDs. It is a hack's way of doing it, but it may work.

But you are still avoiding the main issue - the original files were not encoded correctly to begin with. What is the running time and what is the bitrate of this file ?

The file was encoded the right the first time. I dont want to use a lower bitrate. I want to use 2 discs. What part of that dont you understand. I can rename vob 6 to vob 1 and rewrite the ifo file. I have done this before. ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS HOW TO AUTHOR A DVD ABOVE 8GB ON THE HARDDISC TO GET THE 1GB VOB FILES!!!

Have you tried clicking IGNORE when it TDA tells you it is too large to fit on a disc? That should let you go through. Though I think there is a maximum TDA has and I don't know what that exact number is.

The only other thing would be to try a different authoring program with less restrictions for harddrive creations.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Thank you. A reply to the question I asked

Unfortunately, there is only a details button. No ignore button. I am gonna try Ulead.

What you don't understand, you ignorant fool, is that you put it on two discs, you need to cut the video. Simple as that. You don't author one big disc and pick and choose the bits you want. You either squeeze it down, or cut it up.

Which part of this simple concept don't you understand ?

Muxman doesn't care how big the final DVD will be. At least I don't think it does, never having authored anything that large. If you have chapters, they'll have to be in 29.97fps frame count format, otherwise known as IFOEdit format. The way to split it properly afterwards is with VobBlanker, and not the silly way you're talking about:

    http://dvdguides.netgeekhosting.com/guides/splitdvd9/

If you make it without chapters, you can use the Prev/Cut button to figure where to split.
