  1. Dear fourm
I am in the UK, and recently bought a usb dvb-t dongle for watching digital (freeview) tv on my PC. The software bundled is Blazevideo HDTV. This software allows you to record the programs to hard dirve, and I have successfully done so.
I would now like to be able to burn the files recorded to dvd disk so as to be able to watfch them on television.
I understand I need to do something called "dvd authoring" and in fact have tried this using nero 7. However this attempt was unsucessful.
Why it failed I dont know. However although I am a newbie with little knowledge, from what I have read the files produced from the recording by blazevideo hdtv software need altering before they will be "dvd compliant"
To this end I would like to ask please if someone with more knowledge than me might be able to advise as follows:
    1. Do the files I have recorded need to be altered to make them watchable using a standalone dvd player
    2. If so what needs to be done to them and also can anyone tell me what software would be needed for this. What exactly needs to be done to these files to make them watchable on a standalone dvd player. My standalone dvd player is a matsui portable 7 inch screen dvd player which I use to watch dvds on the tv set. It is not an advanced or state of the art model.

    Yours with regards

It depends, some dvbt recordings are dvd compliant. Try add them in Tmpgenc dvd author and it will report if it's dvd compliant. Or identify the mpeg properties with mediainfo and compare with www.videohelp.com/dvd#tech . HDTV DVBT recording are not dvd compliant, you can then use ConvertXtoDVD or HDTV2DVD to both convert and author as dvd directly.

And if you get sync problems after you authored as dvd try run through the recorded files with VideoRedo, it fixes most such problems and you can use it to cut commercials to.

  3. Hi - thanks very much. This is most helpful. There is plenty of information there for me to be trying out and I shall do so, then get back to this thread reporting results of my efforts.
    For now, though,
    Thanks once more

  4. thanks . i tried convertx to dvd.
tmpgen said the mpeg2 files I got from dvbi9t were not compliant.
Please do you know how I can get my dvb files dvd compliant without authoring directly
    Yours with thanks

Did TDA say the files had too high a bitrate? If so, ignore it. DVB recordings are variable bitrate and TDA gets confused by this. If TDA complains that the resolution is not DVD spec, i.e 544x576, try this -
    Download DVDpatcher.
Load you file into DVDpatcher, use these settings-
    Bitrate:3.5
    Horizontal size:720
    Vertical size:576
    Framerate:25
    Patch:entire file
    Aspect ratio:16:9
    Hit the patch now button
    Don't close DVDpatcher
Start a new project with TDA and import the patched file. TDA will accept this but you will see a green bar on the right hand side. To lose the green bar go back to DVDpatcher and change the horizontal setting back to 544, then hit the patch now button. Continue with TDA, add your menu etc.. and hope your DVD player will play the completed disc.
He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect.

  7. Thank you both for these helpful comments. Gunslinger - I may have accidently caused confusion :

When I opened tmpgen author and tried to add a file (some recorded from dvb-t and joined in videoredo.) I got the following message:

"36 fields is too long for a video gop"
"the dvd -video standard requires that the gop maximum length is as below
    pal - 30 fields - 15 frames
    ntsc 36 fields - 18 frames"

"if you use an xdvd type file you can ignore this message and continue in xdvd mode"

Please do you know if it is ok to press "continue"

    Yours with thanks in advance
