Removing subtitles

Hi everyone,
please could someone tell me (the most simple and cheapest!) way how to remove some french subtitles from my avi file...

Simplest, put a paper over the video when you play it...

If they are hardcoded subs in the picture you can only cut away it, with for example Virtualdub,video->filters and add the null transform filter and then click crop to cut the subs, select video compression and save as new avi ,

or use a logo/subtitle remover, see https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=5;66#5;66 , but it wont look that good after.
