    For compression, I've used SUPER software to convert DVD to DivX which happens to be an AVI file. However, when I play on Cyberlink DVD Power Player or InterVideo WinDVD, I can no longer fast forward as I can with MPEG or VOB files.

    Is there a software video player that allows this or is it a restriction of AVI files? Alternatively, is it possible to create DivX MPEG files?

    VLC can. If you are still having fast forward problems, then it could be the indexing on the AVIs. To fix:


    mencoder.exe "input.avi" -forceidx -oac copy -ovc copy -O "output.avi"

    Tried AutoGK or Fairuse Wizard for your dvd to avi conversions.
