I have a few footy games recorded and their all around 7gig or so each with about a 3hr duration. These are the specs:
    Summary:
    Bit rate: 6440kbps
    Video:
    Format: mpeg2video
    Size: 720x576
    Frame rate: 25.00fps
    Audio:
    Format: mp2
    Bit rate: 224kbps
    Sample rate: 48000Hz
    Channels: Stereo

How should i convert them to smaller files without loosing noticable quality. i have used Xilsoft and converted them to divx, xvid, etc but even at 2000+ bitrate they are pixelated and still pretty big. I recorded them on a Winfast tv2000xp tuner card and i have recently changed the capture profile codec from mpeg2 to ffdshow encoder and the size(9mb per min)/quality ratio is near perfect. is it possible to convert the large mpeg2 video using ffdshow codec??

I don't see why not, you could get a program like vitrual dub mpeg2 or mod and throw you video in ther, set the video and audio to full processing and change the codec settings to exactly what you recrod now. There might be a litte different depending on the soruce materiel but it should be too bad. Just make sure your settings match what you record as now.
