I have just encoded a MPG2 file. The file has come to 4709mb. I have put it in TMPGEnc Author and it says it can only do 4438mb. I used to overburn CDs and get another 8 mins. Is there anything I can do here? I have some DL discs but dont really want to use one for 300mb.

TDA is always a bit on the conservative side with it's DVD limits - if you REALLY try, you can typically get 4489 MB on a blank disk, so just IGNORE the TDA warning & burn away! Similarly, I do my encodes with TMPGENC Xpress and set the output target size to 102% of it's DVD recommendation

Either re-encode at a lower bitrate, using a bitrate calculator to give you the values you need, or use DVD Shrink to reduce the size of your authored too big DVD on your HD.

DVDs don't overburn in the way the CDs do, and even then, overburned CDs often won't work in many devices.

Either use Shrink after TDA, or Rejig prior to TDA to get back to a correct size.

In future, use a bitrate calculator before you encode so you don't go over.

I used to use tmepgenc, but NOW i use VSO convertX

its so much faster, and MY eyes can't see any difference in the quality, maybe its my eyes maybe it's the quality of the files I encode

but to the the OP, i also used to get files that burned to the edge or were to big, I use name brand Discs 'SONY' but i always had drop out problems or seize up frames at the end of the movie

untill I set my target size to 4000 OR less, I suspect my problem is my BURNER not doing a proper burn once it gets near the edge of the disc

but for your problem I suggest you change your target settings and OR bitrate to keep the file smaller so fits on the disc, like others have said , there is NO overburn on DVD
