Only anything from the George Forman product line! Being a lazy yet health concious student, his mini grill is a staple part of my existence!

    A la Shatner.... Oh my!!!

I forgot about the George Forman grill. I bought one. Oh well ok it worked once.

But from one guy to another, the guy is a big teddybear what can I say.

Best short line he ever spoke:

    On Johnny Carson's Tonight show.

George was promoting an upcoming fight

Johnny asked if the other guy was any good.

Big fearless 250 pound George answered with a pretend astonished surprised look as he grinned and said::

    "I hope not!!!"

Johnny broke up in tears of laughter

How about the commercial with the knock out blond advertizing Directv.

What is she saying ... "I spent 100 some days at the gym to get this body and I want Directv's High Definition with 1080 EH ! "

    "I don't know what that means ... but I want it "

    The poll is somewhat misleading.
Anyone who watch international tv and have comparison between european, asian and american tv commercials, can easily spot the trend of US tv - replacing "pretty faces" with "averageness" and often just "ugliness".
Seems like most of americans don't want to see "pretty faces" or great bodies anymore. The women are all unattractive, the men are usualy fat (and if theyre white - theyre portrait at least funny if not dumb).
    So I assume the line
"No - a pretty face doesn't affect how I spend my money"
is in regard to european and asian commercials

Women now control the advertising message here in the USA. The man is always clueless, insensitive and wrong. The hot threatening woman is marginalized and the ad target woman is the problem solver. This now extends to news programming where the women have also taken over. Most pseudo "documentaries" (e.g. Niteline, Primetime, Dateline) are mostly about how men are clueless, insensitive and wrong.

When the men are the ad target (e.g. sports or home improvement programs), pretty women imply they are more available if the man buys the product.

My idea of using a pretty face or a nice body with the pretty face is to catch your attention.

I record with my Directv HR10 HD unit ... 250 GB harddrive and I zoom through the commercials. But I do backup to look at a certain commercial if a see a very attractive ... face or body.

The woman who advertizes Hughes High Speed Satellite Internet connection ... she looks nice too ... especially wearing that tight green sweater.

If I'm zooming through some commercials and fat men and ugly women are whom I'm seeing as they flash by ... I really doubt I will backup and see what is being advertized or being said.

You don't understand the advertising business. Men buy very few things (cars, beer, video games , home entertainment systems, car accessories, etc.) and women often influence that decision (e.g. cars, the furniture look of the home entertainment system).

Women make the buying decision on most everything else. The proportion of those women who are "hot" and buy stuff is very small. The target is the woman who does the shopping.

Most advertising, and by extension, most TV programming is targeted at the woman who writes the checks. This explains why the man is usually the object of ridicule in TV advertising and TV programming. It also explains why the women are now creating the story lines.

    Per dictionary,
    rid·i·cule ... Pronunciation noun, verb, -culed, -cul·ing.
    –noun
    1. speech or action intended to cause contemptuous laughter at a person or thing; derision.
    –verb (used with object)
    2. to deride; make fun of.

And because we are men, we ignor it all and get on with business.

edDV, with all due respect, but as I just read few days ago the US constitutes of 51% single people (kindly note that includes unmarried men too). How women could influence the decision of car purchase by a single guy or how to furnish his room ? Its BS

Hot women in euro and asian ads still sell everything there, don't they? ANd don't tell me there are no women in their advertising agencies
Its political correctness in US that excludes hot looking females (and males) from advertising.
I remember funny tv debate about bad influence of skinny hot females on selfesteem of ugly fat girls... the conclusion suggested by some stupid mothers was to get rid of sexy hot females from tv ads, hahaha No, they didn't even think for a second about how to make their precious little fat slob girls beautiful, start feeding them healthier food etc etc - no, they don't want that (after all most of mommies there were same fat slobs as their lil' daughters). They found easier solution:
Kill beauty if we can't be beautiful ourselves

(apologies for steering into politics here)

    PS:
found good illustration on the subject:

Single men don't buy cars based on TV advertising unless they score way woosie as soap fans. This is because single men don't watch TV that much. Young single men are missing in action for TV viewing except for some narrow highly targeted segments.

Hot women are used more in Euro and Asian markets because attitudes are different and control of the business is different.

Wow. They paid some camerawhore to say nice things about their product, I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo convinced.

No, wait. I'm not. Get the hell out of here and take your tack with you. I'll make my own decisions based on merit not marketing budget and crassness, thanks. Or at least, I'll base it on marketing originality, because things that make me laugh or **** an intrigued eyebrow deserve some minor form of reward...

This post brought to you by Jane Fonda's gushing and painfully false endorsement of L'Oreal Age Re-Perfect Pro-Calcium Night (now there's a product name with which to end the earth, is it not?) in a particularly bad-science advert which I was putting in a compilation for this failed work-based dvd project...
-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!

  12. I dont watch commercial TV - the basic local stations. I only watch a few Sat commercial channels and I record everything first so to skip commercials. I watch the premium movie channels except like now with the US Open on ESPN2. But It's recorded first so 2 to 4 clicks on the remote and I never see the commercials.
The only ones I see are from the national evening news and they are completely owned by the pharmaceutical companies. And I'm not going to a doctor and "ask" for a medicine I dont need. I cant believe people actually do that but they do. So my answer would have to be no due to not watching them.

  13. Killed another thread?
Forgot to ad that if all else is equal and the celebrity is giving to charity, I would lean their way. Again, all choices being equal. That would go for anyone. Not just celebrities... but how many would give it up...
Just dont watch though. Hate the commercials. Hate the Drakes.

Most of us here DO use our brains... therefore we mostly or entirely agree on the subject, hence no discussion

BTW: I'd honestly watch commercial of ie Jessica Alba's Home Porn Video...
I'd even buy the advertised product!!!

Ah, yes, but reinforcement is the path to satisfaction as to the certainty or truth of a matter.
    Without reinforcement, hence; no discussion.
    Same thing. Pretty cool.

To take from my post anything to suggest anyone does not use their brain is total misconception. Just to make sure that's clear. I really really dont intend to assume anyone's state of thought. One of the reasons I like the forum here and the member's comments is that most everyone does indeed use their brains...unlike many forums that are clueless.

Last time I saw Jessica she almost looked like Jennifer Lopez from the backside...scary. Carb alert! But I would still watch the video.
Ooh, Paris Hilton update alert on CNN. Gotta run.

    Regards,
    NL
