    Hi, Newbie here obviously

I am using DVD decryptor and DVDX 2.4.

I just received an ARCHOS 504 PVP player and have been trying to convert some of my movies to avi format so I can transfer them to the player. Problem is that the player's 80g HDD is formatted in FAT32 and will only allow a file sixe of 2g or less. Anything over 2g will be automatically trimmed.

So, I have been using this guide to create my AVI files:

    http://www.wikihow.com/Rip-DVDs-to-Small-AVI-or-MPG-Formatted-Files

The quality is very good, but the file sizes are anywhere from 2.5g - 3g.

Is there a way for me to rip a DVD to a filesize of say 1g with excellent quality?

Also, I have tried this guide as well and have downloaded all necessary software:

    http://www.geocities.com/goodsharer/

Except I have only be able to produce a very low quality file that is very blocky. I'm sure I am doing something wrong.

Can anyone suggest a course of action to follow to create high quality ripped files to play on my ARCHOS at about 2 gig or less?

    Thanks in advance

Use instead AutoGK or FairUse Wizard. Easier to use and good quality.

Thanks for the advice Baldrick, I also have AutoGK installed. Will this help me in creating a smaller AVI filer, say 2g or less?

Also, the Archos unit has the ability to play H.264, MPEG2, and VOB. Do any of these formats have the ability to be created in 2g or less? Or is this strictly a software issue?

Yes, you can, using various tools (read the guides), create video in those formats to most any size you like. Quality, of course, will vary.

Also, the FAT32 file system size limit is 4 GB, not 2 GB, so it may be an avi issue. In fact, I have an Archos 604 myself and have no problem getting 4 gig files onto it to play. If I play DVD files, I just leave it as VOB. I use DVD Shrink to seperate out the vob files of the videos of interest to view individually and then load them up on the Archos since the it does not have DVD playing software. You will need the plug-ins for mpeg2, vob and H.264 video. For video I extract off my Tivo, I convert to avi.
