Hello,
I bought a JVC DR-M100SE and it worked fine for some weeks until now. I can't get any disc to work with it any more. Whenever I insert an empty DVD-R or a normal DVD movie or a home burned DVD into the DVD-recorder it says 'loading' (i think, not sure atm) for a long time. You can hear it spin with some weird ticking some times. After a few minutes the text "Disc Error" occurs. Really don't know how to fix this or why this happens. Only thing I can imagine is that I put in an empty DVD+R in the recorder on accident (I use that one for the computer), but my problem didn't occur immediately after this.
So can anyone enlighten me on what to do? Go back to the store or can I fix it myself?
A little side question; The image quality when I run my TV signal via the DVD-recorder seems a bit pale compared to the normal signal. I think this is because of my old analog TV, and when I buy a new flat screen TV the quality will be better, right?

The DVD burner inside may be dirty or damaged. Clean it. If that fails, get it repaired.

Agamemnon,
The SAME, EXACT same thing happened to me a few months ago with my JVC DR-M100. See my post about it:
https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=312101
Try a CD in it. CDs always worked for me, even when the DVDs didn't. If the CD works, then it's the DVD parts.
I had to send the machine to JVC to be repaired because nothing I tried worked: cleaning discs, unplugging, etc... Mine was still under warranty, so it didn't cost anything except shipping. There are instructions in the back of the manual regarding how to do this, and there's also help on the JVC website.
They had to replace much of the apparatus inside my recorder. I also have a post on here about the repair codes that were on the sheet when the recorder returned, if you're interested in that:

I think it's an internal failure of some kind, so don't blame yourself. So far my recorder seems to be fine now. These recorders are hard to find these days, so IMO, it's worth trying to get it fixed if possible.
Good luck! -
Thanks for the info! I will try to play some CDs and try to clean it (using a special clean-DVD/CD right?). I let you know what the results are.
