I am having trouble downloading ffmpegx.
Actually I've downloaded the binaries and the dmg. I have copied it onto my applications and opened it. I get as far as opening the self installer, I can locate the mplayer and mencoder but the mpeg2enc is where I am having trouble.

I have downloaded the link, when I enter its location i still cant install. Should the file be a txt file? What am I doing wrong?

The txt file thingy is a Safari bug. It wouldn't happen with Firefox.
You could do a Get Info on the file in the Finder, and erase the ".txt" in the Name & Extension field.

But it doesn't really matter, as the installer will take the txt file just fine (as long as the file contains the right binary code).

Thanx for your help, but... it still doesn't seem to accept this.
    I get a:

    Installation Unsuccessful
##/bin/sh: -c: line 1: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `''
/bin/sh: -c: line 2: syntax error: unexpected end of file

    Whatever that means

I'm pretty sure it's the apostrophe character in the hard disk name that is generating the error. Please don't use spaces or special characters in disk names, folder names or filenames that relate to ffmpegX, just to avoid errors like these.

    Lol, this perennial problem?

I wonder though why major doesn't escape path variables to make it easier for noobs.

I expect that to be included in the v1.0.0 release.

  7. Paths are escaped, but a couple tools don't like that, so I should either get rid of them or program a more complicated handling than just escaping. Also, the installer breaks because the Applescript function to authenticate does not itself allow special characters in passwords.

    You've done it!

Normally I'd say I did it, but in this case I feel that I just cant do that.
    Thanks for all your help.

I must be a complete noooob, or a moron, or both!

    Cheers
