I have been experiencing a problem burning 30:00 avi's to my nero 7.0. About 3/4 through the job, the burning fails. I have made coasters four out of the past five attempts. There is no problem with burning shorter avi. I have tried two types of media. Same problem with both.
This is not good.

I agree. Nero is no good. If your player can't play AVI as is (without any conversion) try convertx2dvd. But keep in mind you can buy a DivX/XviD capable DVD player for about the same money as convertx2dvd.

the avi originated from a DV-RexRT program as a half hour TV show. It was saved to desktop and sent to Nero for burning.
It's takes an hour and a half to burn and has been frequently crashing at about the one hour mark. This has been a consistent problem with other similar avi files.
Should I send the avi through Canopus procoder and convert to another format. If so what format? The DVD+R's are sent to
TV stations for broadcast. -
Are you burning as data, or as Video DVD?
No matter what, ditch Nero. There are better alternatives for both.
If you want a Video DVD, there are gazillions of guides for AVI to DVD found under CONVERT left.
If you burn as data DVD, CD Burner XP Pro

are u familiar with VSO convertXTtoDVD?
I have to copy the .exe file to load into my editing computer.
Is "Lock" like a serial number I can transfer? -
vso convertx2dvd is the top of the crop among oneclickwonder applications. It's payware, but its freeware predecessor divx2dvd is worth a try too.
OTOH, it doesn't beat (not even close) properly encoding the AVI into DVD specs mpg with a dedicated encoder like Canopus Procoder, then authoring with a real authoring app like TDA.

I now have convertxtdvd, but am unclear. will this convert my avi video files in my computer or only files on another dvd. I ask this because when i follow instructions and get to the convert phase, when the burn menu should appear, i keep getting the "overwriting file folder".

It's for converting AVI (and other formats) files on your HDD (or USB memory or... any other storage device) and authoring them as Video DVD.
