[Not sure if this is the right place to post this... sorry if it's not]
I have been using PowerDVD 7 Deluxe for a few months now and it plays everything wonderfuly... DVD, CDs, mp3s, AVI files... it's a great player. Anyway i had this one AVI file that would play with no video, only the audio. Both Windows Media Player 9 and PowerDVD did the same so after some research i installed the XVID codec (since the movie file contained "Xvid" in it). It seems that with the codec Windows Media was able to play it with video+sound but PowerDVD just blocked when starting the movie. I tried uninstalling the codecs and even reinstalling PowerDVD but it just wont play any file at all.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be??
I really appreciate it.
By the way, apart from PowerDVD what other players would you recommend?? I'd hate to have to ditch PowerDVD but i really need a reliable player right now.
Many thanks!

One player I recommend is VLC Media Player. Not the best looking or easiest to set up, but it's freeware, plays just about any type of video there is, including subtitles, and requires no installed codecs. It's great if you have a different format video and don't want to install a codec. I would keep it around just for that. I use Zoom player pro for the rest of my videos. But I rarely play DVDs on my computer.
I don't know why PowerDVD would have a problem after installing the Xvid codec. You might check the PowerDVD website. http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/support/product_faq_home.jsp
And welcome to our forums. -
Avs dvd player from http://www.avsmedia.com/DVDPlayer/faq.aspx ... it's free
As for the codec ... possible directshow screwup : http://paul.glagla.free.fr/filmerit_en.htm , download the tool and read the page .
And beware of any codec packs or ffdshow if they have been installed ... pay special attention to the latest divx version , it can screw thing's right up .
And you might want to flash that file in gspot , and check the internal's of that clip ... might show up issue's that your not aware of ... -
Thanks for your replies. I could solve the problem by simply installing the patch 2211a provided by Cyberlink. Now it plays everything perfectly.
Thanks anyway! -
Ok , while I missed this with this particular post ... your supposed to check for product update's first with the vendor's , just as in the case when it come's to driver's and firmware update's for the pc component's .
But happy to see it's now working for you .
