    Hello, Everyone!
Been a big fan of the site for years. Always have found the answers to any questions here. This one has me stumped. Lets see whos the smartest one here!

Recently DVD SHRINK has been locking up my computer. It will anaylize just fine, it defaults to the backup screen as usual. But the moment I click on the structure ( to re author) it freezes. usually I am starting by removing the extra subtitles. but I cannot navigate the dvd at all or make any changes before it locks up. (titles are NightWatch, Invincable so far) .
I have 2 DVD drive and it happens with both. tried switching to an older version of Shrink. No luck. I do have Nero Installed , but it is unchecked as the burning agent. Currently using DVD Decrypter. I can use task manager to end shrink, but one after ejecting the DVD.
By the way NightWatch failed on DVD FAB as well.
    Any suggestions>
    Thanks Guys

Clear out the DVDShrink working folder.
DVD Shrink analysis files can be found in the following hidden folder:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink

    To show hidden files/folders:
Windows Explorer >> Tools >> Folder Options >> View >> Hidden files and folders >> Show hidden files and folders.

For Win ME, it appears to be stored in a folder (not hidden) located here:
    C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink
    Might help.

Personally I use pgcedit + psl2 plugin for ripping .

But it might be a simple solution in your case to bang it's head with fixvts
    http://download.videohelp.com/FixVTS/

Only when it's on the hard drive , before dvdshrink get's a look in at it .

    ==========

I dont think I got this one :

I have 2 DVD drive and it happens with both
Are you saying your reathoring directly from the drive's as part of the ripping process ? ... then that's bound to happen as dvdshrink cant handle the new method's used to protect content .

    I bet a barrel of fat that's what's happening ... lol , because of this part ...

I can use task manager to end shrink, but one after ejecting the DVD.

Yup I am ripping directlt from the dvd. I do not have problem ripping with decrypter then using shrink (or dvd fab for that matter). just trying to make it a one step process, as it used to be . Since I have 2 drives I used to use 1 drive to shrink, then copy to the other drive. Now the only way it will work is to first use 1 of the above programs to rip, then shrink the file saved on the hard drive.
Was hoping shrink was not becoming useless as a ripping tool...
What a great program it was.....

Yes , it's unfortunate when a great tool , is created by someone , who then sell's out short ... I think they went to work for nero from the reports ... so there's no update's for it with respect to the "dvd rip" process .

I think from reports they had been asked before about the source code ... so the work might continue ... but never heard anything come of it .

  7. If you're already familiar with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, use RipIt4Me.

RipIt4Me uses the old (and no longer updated) stand-bys DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter along with (the constantly updated) FixVTS for a new and completely free solution for ripping new DVDs. Once set up, it really almost is a "1-Click" process.

    http://www.ripit4me.org

If you already have the latest DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter installed, just download the "RipIt4Me Installer" file and you'll be on your way in no time.

RipIt4Me will also let you know when it or FixVTS need to be updated.

Go through the guide at least once for the initial setup and backing up newer DVDs will be as easy as before.

Well, I recently heard of Ripit, but have yet to try it. I'm gonna give it a try. And see what happens. Seems that most people these days have to use more than 1 program to do backups. Thanks for all your help guys.
Regarding the inital error. any ideas why it would freeze only after completing the anaylize phase? Semms strange to fail at this point. (and not every disc). mainly the newer discs. I have not tried it , but something tells me if I did a full disk back u it would work. Mainly because I would not have to navigate the DVD. What does this suggest? The copy protection is in the structure of the discs?

Yes. FixVTS repairs all of that.

So this is a new thing. The old method still works on my older discs. Just new ones seem to need the extra "work". Is it a particular studio ? Or just a general thing. As stated before INVINCABLE (disney) and NIGHTWATCH (this is a Forgien DVD). I also had problems with Devil's Backbone ( a spanish movie)

  11. Yes. It is a new thing because newer and more complicated copy protections are being used (mostly by Sony and Disney). You can still use the old method on other discs, but once you learn RipIt4Me, it's easy enough to just use on everything and pretty much insures a proper rip and burn.
