  1. Other than convert files from w/ TMPGenc 4, I don't do anything cpu intensive. Is there a reason to upgrade to Vista? I rather not, but I want a faster system and most of them only come in Vista...

Stay with XP for now. Try to get a system with XP installed and ask for the Vista upgrade DVD so that, eventually, you can change. But not now.

I'm wondering how many people will opt for the 'eye candy' appeal of Vista and not notice the slowdown? Probably most will buy it bundled with a newer, faster computer and will think it is faster than XP ran on their older computer.

I guess I will have to read a few more reviews, but my suspicion is that some of the slowdown is the 'protection' built in. It seems I can't even click on a icon without Vista popping up a security warning. I'm to the point of turning off whatever warning systems I can.

I would also recommend to wait a while before upgrading. There may be some mods out there in the near future to speed it up and make it less 'in your face.'
