    Home = 17" LCD : 1280 x 1024
    PC at my 'rents = 17" CRT : 1024 x 768
    PC at work = 15" LCD : 1024 x 768

22 years old and crap eyesight, but I can't stand anything smaller than 1024 x 768

    1. 800x600, my god, not used that resolution for about 5 years.

    2. Looking at stats from webpage visits to a few different web sites, 1024x768 still seems about the most popular though is closely followed by 1280x1024. I expect the 1280 will become the 'norm' during the year.

    3. If you are going to run a poll, at least include all the popular resolutions.
It'll never become the norm for me. I LOVE 800x600. I cannot see using any other, especially on my 14" laptop screen.

As for the poll, i realized I was missing some resolution sizes but did not know what they were. Also I FORGOT to put an "Other-Post & state your fav" Option. Darnit.

1280x1024 on a 19" screen, which suits me fine.
I used to get so frustrated using virtualdub at 800x600!

    LOL

VirtualDub is fine at 800x600 if using NTSC as it is only 720x480 but as I recall if you are using PAL at 720x576 then yeah the screen wasn't "high" enough to show the image 100% completely from top to bottom.

  5. Well I went from a Sony 19" 4:3 CRT at 1600x1200, to a Samsung 22" 16:10 LCD 1680x1050. My Sony CRT was slowly giving problems and going out, so I decided on widescreen LCD for photo and video work.

It always seemed odd to me that 19" LCD's used 1280x1024 5:4 ratio. If you display 4:3 pictures on them, they look stretched a bit. Circles appear as ellipses in non-native resolutions. I was determined to bypass this problem and almost bought a 1600x1200 4:3 LCD. But decided it was best to go 16:10 for photo and video editing. I'm glad I did. 4:3 also appears just fine when centered on the screen.

I just got such a monitor this past Christmas and I to wonder who came up with such a native resolution LOL

I've noticed that 4:3 videos get resized correctly in that there is a bit of black above and below the image.

But now you got me worried ... are my images "off" due to this resolution?

Like there isn't enough to worry about in life than the resolution of my damn monitor LOL

I took the plunge last night and bought a 22" LCD widescreen 1680x1050 to replace my old 19" Sony Trinitron. Boy what a difference. The microblocks in my video files look about as big as the end of my thumb.

No really. Widescreens are nice. There is plenty of room on the desktop and everything is still easy enough to read. I like it.

Wile_E and FulciLives, it should not matter what the AR of the monitor is. Pictures should be displayed properly on screen unless you're using non-native resolutions or you tell the program you're using to ignore it and stretch the image.
