I have a problem disc.. Unfortunately, it is recorded in the 4 hour mode with No Trackstops.

It contains music Videos from VH1 New Visions from 1986 that are quite rare.. as why I am even bothering to attempt to fix this disc. (This is my only copy)

When I rip it... DVD Decrypter warns me that the "IFO/BUP's" made on the fly are not working right... Yikes!

I assume the VOB's must be working OK because I can play the original in any of my DVD players (In perfect Sync too).. Just takes forever to get to a certain video with no Trackstops in 4 hours.

So, I was trying to "Re-Author" it in Tempeg DVD Author 1.6 and sadly Tempeg 1.6 will not "See" the disc after I rip it into the computer.

However, DVD Shrink DID see the content on the disc..
    (Three times over though...)

So in DVD Shrink, I deleted two of the "Identical" 3 Movie Files..I then tried to re-encode it with DVD Shrink.. then taking that disc and re-authoring it in Tempeg.. but now I have a audio sync problem on the re-authored disc.

About 1 hour or so into the program, it gets more out of sync as the program continues...

This sync problem is NOT on the Original Disc (With no trackstops)when I play it on my DVD Player.

    Weird huh?

Is there some "Trick" into getting Tempeg 1.6 to actually "See" the content on the disc without having to recode it in DVD Shrink?

I am looking for the best transfer possible, short of playing the footage Analog and
Re-Recording it onto two DVD-R's on a standalone.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

Whatever you do....after you rip the disc....run the material through FixVTS.....that should solve your problem.

To avoid any real problem's , I suggest you keep the entire content , but

Use ripit4me to rip the disc to hd ... it use's dvddecrypter .
Then close it when done .

If fixvts is not included (I use pgcedit method) , then download it and run it ... use it to correct any ifo issue's .

Dvdshrink has some quirk's ... it pick's up 8 titles listed on 4 episode disk of stargate ... nice trick .

I prefer rejig for transcoding , as dvdshrink has some issue's .

    -----------

As for splitting the content to two disc's , you can do it the fast way using dvdshrink in reauthor mode .

Or my way using pgcedit ... your choice .

The "duplicates" could just be the way the DVD was Authored. Perhaps there's a "cloned" PGC (for whatever reason), so it "appears" to be a duplicate -- but the dups might actually reference the same Title...

Shrink sees branched versions as separate titles. Even if they just branch for separate language title sequences, Shrink will see it as a new title.

OK.. I ran the Ripitforme Program and it ripped it into my with DVD Decrypter and then the program automatically ran the FixVTS program as well.. and it removed the double file.

Tempeg 1.6 still would not see it.

DVD Shrink saw the video again.. but this time it did not double the size of the disc.. but still listed the duration of the video twice as long.

I then downloaded pgcedit and I am totally confused on how to use it.

Once pgcedit scanned the disc... it saw double files for the menu and 4 hour content.
(Two Menu Movies and Two 4 Hour Movies)

I "think" went in and "Disabled".. (Used the X over the Film Graphic icon) the double content there for the extra menu and extra 4 hour file.

DVD Shrink now sees the dvd "Correctly" and it is listing the one title.. and the one menu.

But.. Tempeg 1.6 STILL can not see it. (I can bring it up to where it says add DVD video.. but it can not see the 4 hour video inside the DVD... it is blank.. Just like every other time.)

I guess I can try and re-code it in DVD Shrink.. and then rip that disc into the computer and open it in Tempeg 1.6 again??

Hopefully the sync problem was corrected by the use of FixVTS and the blocking of the same file again in PgcEdit.. (I am assuming that is what I did.. as I really don't understand the PgcEdit program)

I just don't know why I can always open this thing in DVD Shrink.. but still Tempeg 1.6 just can't see this disc.

    Weird???

Set compression to No Compression in Shrink and ignore the oversize warning if you get one. This will stop it transcoding the disc.

is this something you bought years ago, or somrhing you made on ancient equipment,
if theres NO copy prptection schemens on the disc , have your tried just playing the disc on one player and recording it on another player, beg borrow or rent a dvd-dvr recorder, maybe the poloroid with component inputs, plug the cables from one to the other and make a new disc that way..use S-video or componet signals

record onto the DVR HD in 4 hr mode for 1 disc or 2 hr mode for 2 discs, then edit the file to set your chapters

you could even record each video as a seperate file on the dvr, just hit pause on the palyer and stop on the the recorder, then repeat he process

then you could author new discs withe files all nameded and in any order you wanted them

I would avoid re-encoding, it will just degrade the video to no good reason. I think all you really need to do is extract MPEG from the VOB(s). There are many possible ways of doing this, VOB2MPEG, PGCedit, etc.

You may need to demux the MPEG, depending on your authoring software. Then re-author.
If the resulting MPEG is too big, use a DL disc if your drive is capable, preferable to shrinking I think.
