OK my task. to build an internal VOD system to play back video assets from a server share for journalist review at any of our global offices. The idea being if they review the material, like it - then want to get the full resoulution item they can the request that file to be FTP'd over to them.

Im thinking of a youtube type idea that looks at the full resolution file on the server share and trascodes it in near real time over the network at say H.264 256k using VLC on the server.

Ithink the front end has to be browser based with the activex plugin?

I know VLC has some VOD features.

Any thoughts?
