  1. Hi everyone!

I am not real new to making VCD's, but I came across a strange problem. I ripped Disc 1 of the Sopranos first season. I use DVD2AVI to get the files ready for TMPGenc. The resulting wav file out of DVD2AVI is not a valid wav file when I try to play it in Winamp! I can load the wav file up in my audio editing program just fine and it plays, but even if I copy and paste it into a new empty file it still doesn't play in Winamp.

I discovered this because I encoded episode 1 and played it in my DVD player. The picture was nice but no sound!

Any ideas? Is there a setting in DVD2AVI that I need to set? I played around with some of them and I still can't get a good wav file.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Scott

  2. I am willing to bet that your .wav file is bigger than 2 gigs- am I right? If so you can select 1/2 the vobs in dvd2avi and end up with a wav file 1/2 the sizes of the original and then do it again for the second 1/2. You should overlap your vobs so that you can cut the movie (or episodes) where you want. In other words do vobs 1-5 the first time and 5-8 (or whatever) the second. If I'm too vague on how to do this post again and I'll explain it better!
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Further to the question of WAV file size, are you ripping single episodes or all at once. Individual episodes should give you smaller file sizes.

Just a little unrelated tip. DVD2avi has a bug with these types of dvds of tv series. If you use dvd2avi to frameserve say, all 3 of the episods on the dvd then you will get audio/video desync. Maybe this was fixed in the recently released version of dvd2avi but I know this is listed in its bug report for 2.76 which was the only previous final version. When ripping tv series like this it is best to do each episode separtely.

I can speak from experience that this particular Sopranos dvd will desync if you rip the whole thing, well it certainly did for me.

  5. The problem was the wav file size was too big. I did only 3 episodes and it worked fine.

    Thanks for all your help!
