I have a relative who recently purchased the Sony SLV-D370P DVD/VCR Combo Player and can't get any DVDs to play. Audio CDs works fine but just not DVDs. It will display an error screen: DVD_ERRLOG5 and then displays a bunch of numbers over 20 digits long. It sounds like it takes forever for the player to initially read the DVD. Then when it should spin up and start playing, it sounds like it can't or like something's stopping it. I can't really be sure what I'm hearing.

I ended up just telling the relative to return it and purchase something else.

Can anyone tell me what might be going on here? I can't find anything about that error number. It would be nice to know why it wasn't working.

From all the reviews I have read on the unit , and because you are hearing secondhand info which cannot be relied upon (get them to physically sit down and read the manual supplied with unit)... if after trying several dvd's , it's still playing up ... tell them to take it back .

Did they put it on a quality power board with spike protection ... one blip in the power source , and the dvd side crap's out for good , it's sensitive ... everything else should work fine .

I tested the dvd player before my original post and it will not play any DVDs. I read through the entire manual, I tried a different hookup/connection, I searched Google for the error message, and I searched on Sony's website for a solution with no luck.

I also read a few reviews where other people had the same or similar problems with this model. I'm wondering if maybe this model has a bad motor where it will play CDs but not DVDs (like those Panasonics from a few years ago). It would be nice to know what the error code meant.

I do know that they don't have any of their home entertainment equipment connected to a surge protector. Their house is ancient and they have tons of equipment plugged into one outlet. I'll suggest to them to buy a surge protector. But I doubt that's what caused this problem.

Sounds like it is defective or the dvd laser is dead. Either way, it needs to be returned/exchanged/repaired.

I just had this problem and error code with my new Sony DVD player, same model, and checked online and found this post. Well, I had my TV sitting ON the Dvd player and I just took it off a few minutes ago. It fixed the problem and I can play DVDs now. Seems like pressure on top of the DVD player was the problem for me.

  6. That Sony 370 is actually a re-badged Samsung OEM product. The DVD drives in those units are marginal quality, at best. You have a defective drive. Only a small percentage of these units get tested after assembly... some of them show up not working properly even though they are brand new.

Take it back for an exchange or refund.
