hey yall...looking for some help or advice...
just recently acquired a dvcpro cam and deck...
wanted to know if there was a capture card i could install into my pc that would accept the video input...i know of a capture card for the deck itself is available...but it cost a grand...is there anything i could do to get around that...like a card that has a bnc connector on it?
or maybe you know where i can get a cheaper version of a capture card for a dvcpro deck...
thanks...

Does the deck and camera have a firewire port? If so that's all you need.

List the model numbers. Pro cams usually use uncompressed SMPTE 259M workflow.

But most decks (if not camcorders) have an IEEE-1394 DV port for computer interface. You have several ways to work.
1. All DV format as done at the consumer and prosumer level.
2. All SDI. For this you will need to pimp your computer to full workstation level with RAID to handle 270Mb/s uncompressed serial data flows. Realtime compositing is the next step up from there requiring 3-4 synchronized streams. Look to SDI cards from AJA or Blackmagic as a start.
3. Use a SDI to DV converter like the Datavideo DAC-5 or the Canopus ADVC-1000. See

Hopefully your deck has an IEEE-1394 port or has one as an option. -
wow!...thank you all for the quick responses...it helps alot...although i'm not in tune with all the jargon...so i'll show what the deck looks like from the back...
