I am making a black and white silent movie, and I am looking for a nice free font to use for the intertitles (is that the right phrase for the text boards?). I like Silentina, but I do this to help a relative, for free of course, and since I am a cheap bastard I do not feel like paying for a font just to help him out.
Has anyone got a suggestion?

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out.
I was hoping for a suggestion of a specific font that someone else had used for this purpose. There are so many free fonts available that I find it very difficult to find a good one - it is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. In the beginning the Universe was created. Get your relative to look through the many fonts here: www.dafont.com (and at any other suggested sites) and, when they've found one they like, let you know so you can use it.
I've never done a project like yours, so can't suggest a choice of fonts. Sorry.
Check out the winner of VideoHelp's 2005 Short Film Competition - that uses nice titles. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
Carpe diem.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room. -
Sounds like you want an Art Deco font.
Browse through the "retro" fonts at http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=115.
These are all free fonts. -
At that site I linked , I got rather partially interested in
armalite , zero , Ziperhea , Zombie , Zorque , Zurichi , Yarborough , Yataghan , Xband Rough , Xerox Malfunction , Xylograph , Warlock , Weatherd , Webster , Westminstergotisch , Witchcraft Normal , Woodplnk , Vademecu , Vanilla , Viking N , Vinque , Vivacs , Vivaldii , Vtc Nightofthewackeddead ... just a few for black and white usage .
As for the looking in the haystack ... that's the problem isnt it .
You want to find something agreeable to both parties involved ... and even one you thing work's , may not actually look all the well once the dvd is played back .
It took me a while to cull it down to the better 300 fonts pack which I use for mine . -
Thanks for the tips and hints, I think we will go for either a font called Bellerose or one called Noir et Blanc.

I know this is an OLD post, but for someone who may be looking for this same information, I found these Fonts that work well as an Intertitle.
